Hospital order with restrictions under the Mental Health Act, indefinite detention
Christina Howell, diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, stabbed Hubert Brown, a 61-year-old man, in the neck on September 29, 2023, in the St Pauls area of Bristol. The attack was unprovoked and racially motivated; Howell had told her care worker she intended to target a 'Jamaican drug dealer,' mistakenly identifying Mr. Brown. She was armed with a four-inch lock knife, and witnesses reported racist abuse during the incident. Despite her mental health issues and prior hospitalisations, the attack occurred in broad daylight, leading to Mr. Brown's death later that afternoon.
Pleaded manslaughter by diminished responsibility due to schizoaffective disorder. Judge described the attack as racist and unprovoked, noting she is a danger and prohibiting her from entering Bristol.

Sentence
4 years detention with 3 years on licence
On January 27, 2024, in the Bishopsworth area of Bristol, the 15-year-old defendant, wearing a balaclava, flagged down a 17-year-old victim's car on Lakeshore Drive after the victim took a wrong turn while driving to McDonald's. The defendant pulled a 25.5cm Rambo-style knife from his waistband and attempted to stab the victim through the driver's window, injuring his arm, leg, and severely cutting his right hand and middle finger, damaging tendons and nerves. The defendant then smashed the car's windows with the knife. The victim escaped and sought treatment at Southmead Hospital, initially claiming self-injury. The same knife was later recovered from a property linked to the murders of Max Dixon and Mason Rist later that day in Knowle West, with the victim's blood on the blade and the defendant's DNA on the handle. There was no connection between the defendant and victim.
Pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, criminal damage, and possession of an offensive weapon. Sentence concurrent with life detention for murders. Prior convictions for possessing weapons. Deemed dangerous by judge.
