On December 6, 2023, a ULEZ camera was installed at the junction of White Oak Gardens and Willersley Avenue in Sidcup, southeast London. Later that day, Stephen Harwood-Stamper, 63, of Horsham, West Sussex, drove to the location and used an angle grinder to cut down the pole supporting the camera. The camera was later destroyed by an improvised explosive device, but this was not linked to the defendant. He was interviewed by counter-terrorism police and apologised in a letter to the court for the public shame caused to his family.

Pleaded guilty to criminal damage. Lost engineering job and pension, now working as labourer. Actions embarrassed his three successful children. Judge Philip Shorrock noted it was a 'moment of madness' and rejected absolute discharge to avoid encouraging similar behaviour.
