On January 3, 2017, at around 11.20pm in King William Street, Coventry, police pulled over Darrian Joseph (24) of Steinway, Bannerbrook Estate, Coventry, for an unreadable number plate on his father's MG ZR hot hatch car, which he was not insured to drive. After initially appearing calm and cleaning the plate, he panicked when asked for his licence, sped away doing 50-60mph in a 30mph zone, ran red lights at Swanswell Street and Cox Street junction, lost control, mounted the kerb, hit a street sign, and flipped the car. He fled on foot, leaving a large bag of cannabis in the vehicle. He was not arrested until August 2017 and admitted buying the cannabis for personal use over time. This incident occurred while he was subject to a prior 12-month suspended sentence for producing cannabis found growing in bedrooms at an address in Hurst Road, Coventry.
Pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possessing cannabis. Judge Recorder Nicholas Syfret QC called cannabis users 'bloody idiots' and urged him to grow up. Committed offences while subject to an earlier suspended sentence for producing cannabis, which has now expired.

Boffey, who had no prior involvement, picked up the phone to return it, prompting Seymour to attack her with a knife. Boffey suffered a gash to her hand while defending herself and was then stabbed three times—once in the arm and twice in the shoulder—resulting in a punctured lung. Seymour was arrested shortly after with the knife still in her possession. The incident occurred on the day of Seymour's grandmother's funeral, amid claims of disassociation due to trauma, but the judge emphasized the premeditated nature of the attack.
