On February 1, 2024, Peter Gilmore was driving a Citroen Dispatch van on the A487 from Aberystwyth to Llanrhystud and the B4337 towards Talsarn when he exhibited dangerous driving behaviour, including driving closely behind large vehicles, nearly crashing head-on, weaving across the road, and narrowly avoiding collisions over 14.2 miles. He attempted to overtake a lorry but pulled into the path of an oncoming Hyundai, causing a head-on collision that left the victim with a fractured sternum, two fractured ribs, and whiplash injuries. Gilmore tested positive for cannabis, slurred his words, and had abnormal pupils at the scene. He had been stopped earlier that day for drug-driving and disqualified at another court.
Pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a sample for analysis. He had 44 previous convictions, including for dangerous driving in 2004 and several instances of driving whilst disqualified. In May 2019, he approached a lone woman in her front garden in Lampeter, manipulated her into allowing him into her home, and raped her that day, continuing to manipulate her for months until she reported it in January 2020. Between March and April 2021 in the Llanddewi Brefi area, he approached another lone female at home, convinced her to let him stay by claiming homelessness, and raped her on two separate occasions while she slept in her bed. The pattern of offending linked the cases, leading to his conviction.
Found guilty of four counts of rape following trial. Placed on the sex offenders register for life and given an indefinite restraining order for each victim. To serve two thirds before applying for parole.

Prior to the incident, they were not acquainted but had met coincidentally earlier that evening at a mutual friend's address where alcohol was consumed. DNA evidence proved the case.

On August 29, 2023, police executed a search warrant at Raymond Green's home in the Penlan area of Swansea based on intelligence about drug supply. They found over 700 Valium tablets in the living room, £33,000 in cash under the seat of a motorbike, and in a hidden compartment in the bathroom ceiling, 177g of cocaine and almost 1.5kg of cannabis. Examination of his phone revealed messages relating to drug supply, including one from the defendant stating 'the shop is open'. Green claimed the cash was from his previous window fitting business and that he owed money to the taxman; he admitted using cocaine and cannabis to self-medicate after a stroke in 2022 ended his business.
Pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply (one-quarter discount applied) and possession of cannabis with intent to supply (10% discount applied); sentences concurrent; no separate penalty for possession of Valium; prior convictions for 21 offences including production of cannabis; judge emphasized deterrence for Class A drug dealing.

Mathew Pickering murdered 46-year-old Georgina Dowey at his address in Cadoxton, Neath. Georgina, a vulnerable individual, was in a relationship with Pickering and had moved into his Beaconsfield Street home in March 2023. She was last seen alive on Friday, May 5, 2023, with the murder occurring later that evening or in the early hours of May 6, 2023. Her body was discovered by police in his downstairs bathroom on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Pickering spent approximately 40 hours covering his tracks, including sending a text to her phone on May 6 pretending she was alive, buying bleach claiming it was for cat-related blood in the living room, and disposing of evidence such as her two mobile phones in local bins, including a dog waste bin. His actions were partially caught on CCTV, and he made disclosures to family members the following day.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder. Sentenced following a guilty verdict for murder last week. Detective Inspector noted the sentence represents justice for the murder committed by her partner.

Sulieman Miskry, 30, from London, was involved in a highly organised class A drug operation supplying drugs to the student population in Swansea, posing as a student at Swansea University. The operation began in April 2020 when his brother Sameh Mohamed was stopped by police. Miskry was found at Mohamed's home with cash, cannabis, ketamine, cocaine, mobile phones, and drug supply paraphernalia. In September 2021, drugs were recovered from student accommodation next door to where Miskry and Mohamed resided, implicating them in a significant county lines operation. Interrogation of Miskry’s phone revealed digitally altered PDF documents used as false alibi evidence in the first trial.
Convicted of all 24 charges after a four-week trial, including perverting the course of justice by altering alibi evidence. Four of the men pleaded guilty, while Miskry entered a not guilty plea.
Sameh Mohamed

Sameh Mohamed, 24, from London, was stopped by police in Swansea in April 2020 following reports of drug dealing. Drugs were recovered during the search, leading to his arrest. A search of his home found his brother Sulieman Miskry along with cash, cannabis, ketamine, cocaine, mobile phones, and paraphernalia associated with drug supply. Both were posing as students at Swansea University and supplying drugs to the student population. In September 2021, drugs were recovered from student accommodation next door to where Mohamed and Miskry resided, implicating them in a significant county lines operation. Phones provided further evidence of the organised drug supply.
Pleaded guilty. Part of the same organised drug supply operation as his brother Sulieman Miskry.

Between 1994 and 2004, Henry Steven Wilson, 59, of Matthew Street, Waun Wen, Swansea, abused and raped his young victim, who was only five years old when the abuse started.
Pleaded guilty to nine charges, including 22 counts of rape against a child. Placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Previously subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which remains in place. DC Rebecca Williams noted the crimes are appalling and the offender poses a significant risk to children.

Geraint Purton, in a relationship with the victim for about 18 months, launched three attacks due to paranoia. On May 14, he snatched her phone and hit her on the head, causing a cut and making her faint and vomit. On June 18, while she was asleep, he hit her nose, used derogatory language, accused her of infidelity, and kicked her in the torso, injuring her and exposing a child to blood and violence. On July 1, he dug a razor blade into her face while she prepared her child for school. He sent apologetic messages after each incident and was reported to police on July 5.
Pleaded guilty to three offences. Had eight previous convictions and was subject to a suspended sentence at the time. Defence highlighted drug misuse and engagement with mental health and substance programmes. Judge described actions as cowardly and aggravated by presence of children.
Kashif Iqbal

Kashif Iqbal, of Jersey Road, Bonymaen, Swansea, ran an illegal vapes business at Rebel Vapes shop in Morriston. In 2022, Swansea Council trading standards officers conducted visits and test purchases, seizing hundreds of vapes containing enough liquid for up to 4,000 puffs, exceeding legal limits. He also supplied vapes wholesale. In July 2023, over 90 boxes (each with 160 vapes) were found at a storage unit, and 27 boxes in his van. The total value of vapes sold and seized was estimated at £500,000. His prosecution led to the takedown of a major UK supplier in Southall, London.
Pleaded guilty to participating in a fraudulent business. Judge Catherine Richards noted involvement in selling thousands of illegal and unregulated vapes, including to a child. Proceeds of crime hearing resulted in £300,000 confiscation order.

Beverly Gilson and John Howard kept 48 dogs and one cat in unsuitable conditions at their home in Trallwyn, Abernant, Carmarthen. The animals were discovered following the sudden death of Gilson's husband on 29 October 2022, when police called the RSPCA. Inspector Keith Hogben attended and found overpowering smells of urine and faeces, dogs in stacked cages without bedding, one dog spinning in a small rodent cage, matted coats on 22 dogs, skin disease in 17 dogs, and poor socialisation for three dogs. The cat was very poorly and put to sleep on welfare grounds, along with two dogs. 39 dogs were signed over to the RSPCA and rehomed, with others assisted by charities.
Pleaded guilty to four offences under the Animal Welfare Act. In mitigation, he let matters get out of hand without deliberate intention, was dependent on Gilson and her late husband (his cousin), and the dogs were not kept for commercial purposes.

Roy Lockett of Pembrey Road, Llanelli, initially targeted a vulnerable young girl and subjected her to a lengthy period of sexual abuse. He plied the child with alcohol and abused her using items from his large collection of sex toys. He also made indecent images of the child. The child had to give evidence in court as the pair denied the offences.
Former driving instructor. Pleaded guilty to causing a child to engage in sexual activity and two counts of engaging in sexual communications with a child. Previously convicted of three counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act, two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and making an indecent photograph of a child. Judge described him as using the child as his 'sexual plaything' before handing her over to his son as 'a prize'.
