Raheem Ahmed was part of a group of local males involved in the widespread sexual exploitation and grooming of six complainants aged between 14 and 17, spanning approximately 7 years from the late 1990s in and around Oxford. The allegations included conspiracy to rape, multiple incident rape, multiple incident indecent assault, sexual activity, and false imprisonment. The trial commenced on 9th October 2017 and involved complex evidence presented complainant by complainant.
Convicted in a five and a half month long sexual abuse trial concluding in late March 2018.

Lavinia Woodward

On 30 December 2016, Lavinia Woodward, a 24-year-old medical student at Christ Church, Oxford, stabbed her boyfriend, a Cambridge University student, in the lower leg with a bread knife during an argument in her Oxford accommodation. The incident occurred after she had been drinking and became angry when he contacted her mother for help. She threw objects, picked up the knife, and stabbed him while he called 999. She was restrained as she attempted to harm herself. The injuries were relatively minor. Woodward was deeply distraught and mentally disturbed at the time, influenced by her addictions to Class A drugs and alcohol, and an eating disorder.
Pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding. No previous convictions. Described as genuinely remorseful and having overcome addictions through treatment. Judge noted her emotional instability, eating disorder, and alcohol/drug dependence.

Paul Robson

Paul Robson entered a woman’s home through a cat flap, tied her up, put a pillow case over her head, and brutally assaulted her while holding a knife to her throat. The attack occurred three weeks after his release from prison on licence.
Sentenced as a 'menace to females'. Refused parole in February last year. Recommended for open prison. Absconded from HMP North Sea Camp. To be ineligible for parole for at least a further two years upon recapture.

Philippa Curtis
Causing death by dangerous driving *

Philippa Curtis, aged 21, of Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, was driving at 70mph when she ploughed into the back of Victoria McBryde’s stationary Peugeot 106 on 20 November 2007 on the A40 near Wheatley. Phone records showed she had sent more than 20 text messages and made several calls during her journey from Suffolk to Oxford. Miss McBryde had pulled over due to a burst tyre and was waiting for the RAC. Curtis also collided with a white van and an Asda lorry, resulting in Miss McBryde being crushed against a concrete wall and dying from a serious head injury.
Found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. Judge Julian Hall commented on the need for 100% concentration while driving and criticised mobile phone use. She had sent texts and made calls prior to the crash.
Tahir Ali

Tahir Ali, landlord of a house in Marston Street, Oxford, engaged in a campaign of harassment and violence against tenants to increase rents. On 6 June 2014, after changing the locks to prevent tenant Thangaperumal Rajasingh from entering following a missed rent payment, Ali and an unknown accomplice attacked Rajasingh in the street. Ali punched him twice in the face and the accomplice hit him on the leg with a cricket bat, leaving him with horrific injuries.
Denied the offence but found guilty by jury. Judge noted it was culmination of campaign of harassment and violence towards tenants over rent disputes. Prior violence against another tenant boasted about in text message.

Johnathon Dobson committed two non-dwelling burglaries, theft from cars and theft of e-bikes in Wallingford on October 15. He smashed a window at Help I've Broken It Store in St Martin's Street, stealing mobile phones and sat navs worth £3,000, causing four days of lost trading. He stole two e-bikes worth £4,030 from Wyatt Way, broke into vehicles stealing a jacket, wallet and brown bag, and burgled a garage taking spirits, Champagne, beer and power tools worth £1,200. On the same day, he drove a van without insurance, without a licence and while under the influence of alcohol.
Also disqualified from driving for 18 months for driving without insurance, without a licence and while under the influence of alcohol.

Alan Topping admitted to a break-in at Concord in Cranbrook, Kent, in June 2023, and another burglary at JS Auctions in Banbury, Oxfordshire, in July 2023. The burglaries involved stealing valuable items as part of a series of auction house break-ins.

Bernard Cowley

Bernard Cowley, 37, from Tyrells Way, Sutton Courtney, Abingdon, carried out vicious assaults on the same woman on three separate occasions at a property in Tyrells Way. The attacks happened on 4 November 2017, 10 May 2018, and 3 November 2018. The victim suffered cuts, a black eye, a broken nose, bruising across her body, and marks around her throat. She needed hospital treatment but has since been discharged. Cowley was arrested on 11 November 2018 and charged 11 days later.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of actual bodily harm. The assaults caused serious physical and psychological harm.
