Months earlier, Annamali had demanded money from Mahendran over the phone, threatening 'you'll see what I do'. Around 8.30pm, as Mahendran walked back to the store from his car, Annamali ran towards him wielding the knife and made thrusting motions. Kebab shop staff from the adjacent premises intervened, restrained Annamali, and disarmed him, preventing more serious harm. CCTV captured the assault. Annamali made no comment during police interview. The attack was premeditated revenge, leaving Mahendran in pain and fearing further attacks on himself and his family, considering relocation.
