He provided fake doctor's letters and fabricated a PTSD diagnosis. He obtained hotel stays, financial aid, and permanent council housing in March 2018, even requiring repainting and re-carpeting. Investigators discovered he was linked to a property in Archway, north London, and mobile phone data, bank transactions, and CCTV footage proved he was not near Grenfell during the fire. The fraud totalled £95,706.42.
Two counts of fraud. Detective Constable Lisa Cook described his behaviour as despicable.

On 4 September 2017, Abbas Issa took part in a violent street brawl between two groups armed with knives on Rosebery Road, Hounslow. Patrick Oyeri died from a stab wound to the chest. Issa disappeared after the stabbing; his mother reported him missing. He had travelled to Tanzania and was arrested upon landing back at Heathrow Airport. Forensic evidence linked him to the white Volkswagen Golf used as the getaway vehicle.
Pleaded guilty. Additional 1-year extended licence for dangerousness. Also sentenced to 2 years 6 months for possession of an offensive weapon, to run concurrently. Fled to Tanzania after the incident and was arrested on his return to Heathrow Airport.
John Mcgovern

On 17 January 2017, John McGovern was driving a Range Rover when he swerved onto the wrong side of Green Lane in Hounslow, mounted the pavement, smashed through a bus stop and struck two female pedestrians. Himanshi Gupta, aged 26, died from multiple injuries in hospital; her friend was seriously injured. There was no CCTV or witness evidence, so police relied on forensic evidence and phone records which showed McGovern was making hands-free calls throughout the journey and was on a call at the time of the collision. He did not stop or call emergency services.
Convicted after a six-day trial. McGovern claimed he blacked out and could not recall the crash, but the jury rejected his defence. He was making multiple hands-free calls and was on a call at the moment of collision, yet failed to stop and did not call 999.
Hoang Huy Bui

On 15 March 2019, Hoang Huy Bui and another defendant, along with a group from West Thames College, went to Avenue Road, Isleworth. The victim was attacked by the defendants, who were armed with zombie style knives, and was stabbed repeatedly in the back and forehead. Bui pleaded not guilty to grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article, but was convicted and sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 4 October 2019.
Pleaded not guilty. Concurrent 3-month sentence for possession of a bladed article. Victim was attacked with zombie style knives and stabbed repeatedly in the back and forehead.

Hubert Greliak raped and sexually assaulted a woman while filming his crimes with a phone in Highbury New Park, London N5. Victim reported sexual assault and theft in Ealing, West London, in January 2020. Officers arrested the then 33-year-old (aged 37 at time of article), seized his phone which he refused to unlock, and analysed a hard drive containing evidence of the rape. He was charged, bailed but breached conditions; police tracked him and fitted an electronic tag.
Found guilty of rape and assault by penetration after trial at Isleworth Crown Court in January; admitted theft and failure to comply with request to reveal phone PIN. HH Judge Hammerton commended investigating officers.

Gagandeep kidnapped, tortured, and raped a 24-year-old woman after she refused to bring a suitcase of unknown items into the UK from Thailand. When she arrived at Birmingham Airport in June 2024, she was forced into a car by masked men, driven to a house in Hanwell, and held captive for more than a day. During this time she was tortured and raped twice. Her mother preserved clothing evidence, which provided a one in a million DNA match.
Found guilty of two counts of rape, kidnap, false imprisonment and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Must serve at least 18 years before parole can be considered. Deportation with no right of re-entry upon release.

On 17 October 2017, Dennis Gayle, 34, approached a man of the same age near a bar on Westbourne Park Road, asking for directions to a cash machine. The victim agreed and guided Gayle to his car before both travelled to Portobello Road. Near Lancaster Road, after a chat turned sour, the victim tried to leave but Gayle lunged at his vehicle and stabbed him in the neck with scissors. He then fled towards Golborne Road. Passers-by rushed to help the victim, who received emergency treatment from London Ambulance Service and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since been discharged.
Pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent. Originally pleaded not guilty but changed plea ahead of sentencing. Detective Sergeant Chris Taylor said: 'This was a petty dispute that very nearly resulted in a man losing his life.'

On the night of 19 March 2018, Derrick Fatunbi and his gang targeted a Range Rover on the Woodberry Down Estate near Finsbury Park. Armed with a shotgun and another firearm, they threatened the vehicle’s occupants before making off in both the Range Rover and their getaway car, a Nissan Primera. Armed officers moved in on his Mandeville Street home just before 1am. Despite police ordering him to surrender, Fatunbi appeared at a window and fired his shotgun. Officers returned fire during a tense standoff. Confronted again on the stairs, he pointed the weapon at police before being shot multiple times. Fatunbi was found collapsed on the landing with the shotgun beside him. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 12 years.
Found guilty of attempted murder of a police officer, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear. Also pleaded guilty to a previous supermarket robbery in Dalston.

She received hotel accommodation and cash payouts totalling £67,125.35 intended for genuine victims. Police investigation proved she never lived in Grenfell Tower. She was arrested on 1 May and pleaded guilty at Isleworth Crown Court on 30 May.
Pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and deceiving UK immigration authorities. Concurrent nine-month sentence for the immigration deception. The judge described the fraud as 'parasitic' exploitation of the Grenfell tragedy.

USB sticks containing child abuse images were seized from his home.

David Prosser

David Prosser, a 64-year-old former kickboxing coach from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, targeted vulnerable children at makeshift kickboxing clubs in pubs, community centres, and schools in his home town and London during the 1980s and 1990s. He would praise their skills and offer one-to-one tuition at his home, where he isolated them before bribing them with alcohol, cash, cigarettes, drugs, and gifts, leading to sexual abuse. Between 1989 and 1996 he abused five young boys under 16 who were students at his kickboxing club. The offences included indecent assaults and other serious child sex offences. Prosser has prior convictions for similar crimes, including a 21-year sentence in 2009 for abusing 20 boys and one girl over 20 years.
Convicted of abusing five young boys under 16 between 1989 and 1996. Already serving a 24-and-a-half year prison term for previous child sexual offences. CPS praised the victims' courage.
Corrie Russell

On 3 April 2018 in broad daylight, 24-year-old Corrie Russell randomly chased a man in his twenties along Merrick Road, Southall, and stabbed him multiple times in the upper body and both legs. The victim suffered serious damage to both legs, was unable to walk without assistance, and remained in hospital for two months. CCTV showed Russell leaving Southall railway station shortly before the attack, and DNA evidence recovered from a railing he jumped over identified him. The knife was never found. Russell was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and carrying an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment at Isleworth Crown Court on 23 January 2019.
Unprovoked attack. Victim left with life-changing injuries, unable to walk without help. Knife never found. Also received concurrent three-year sentence for carrying an offensive weapon.
Constantin Nantu

On the evening of 1 January, Nantu lay in wait behind a parked car on Gorst Road, NW10. As a woman in her 30s walked past while on her phone, he launched a brutal assault, punching her repeatedly on the back of the head, knocking her to the ground, and continuing the attack as she tried to flee. She was discovered by passersby with severe bruising and cuts to her eyes, elbows and knees. The police initially treated the scene as a hit-and-run. She was rushed to hospital with rib pain. Nantu, a jealous ex-lover, had repeatedly visited her home in late December, enraged that the relationship had ended and she had started socialising again.
Found guilty of grievous bodily harm and harassment. Judge Curtis-Raleigh described the attack as a 'cowardly and despicable premeditated attack' fuelled by jealousy and rage. Nantu had repeatedly visited the victim's home in late December before the assault.

Tauren Hodd, 24 of Syon Lane, Isleworth gained entry into a shed in Osterley on Tuesday, 5 February, stealing the owner’s property. He was identified and arrested on 21 February by West Area CID based at Acton. He was convicted of burglary.

Temur Shah

Temur Shah, a 45-year-old private hire driver from Harrow, sexually assaulted a vulnerable 27-year-old female passenger during an Uber ride in the early hours of 15 January 2018. The victim, feeling unwell, was picked up in London's West End. Shah forced her to the front seat and assaulted her when she leaned out of the vehicle to be sick, ignoring her distress. She had no phone battery or money and remained in the cab.
Found guilty after a week-long trial. Received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, banned from driving taxis or private hire vehicles indefinitely in England and Wales, and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Tom Hagyard, a trainee solicitor of Fylde Road, Southport, Merseyside, sexually assaulted a sleeping law student in the party host's bed and molested another woman asleep on the living-room couch at a party in a Fulham Road flat in west London on October 15, 2017. He arrived with a bottle of wine, and in the early hours, the first victim woke with him on top of her while she was heavily intoxicated and in and out of consciousness. The second victim was woken at 5.30am by him touching her chest.
Convicted of two counts of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault. Will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely and must serve two thirds of the sentence before parole. Claimed sexual activity was consensual.

Sean Bettinson, 49, of New Malden, south west London, befriended the parents of a pupil at a public school and manipulated the girl from the age of 12, developing a long-term sexual relationship that began with kissing and progressed through various sexual activities during her GCSE and A-level years. He accompanied her on school trips abroad and gave her additional attention. The victim, sitting behind a screen, described the fear, shame, anger, and long-lasting trauma, including breakdowns. She reported him to police in October 2016 after confronting and recording him. He entered guilty pleas on 30 March following initial appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court in November 2020.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault and two counts of abuse of a position of trust. Former sports and maths teacher who befriended the victim's parents. Judge Simon Davis noted the relationship was consensual in a general sense but highlighted the abuse of trust and long-term impact on the victim. Two further counts of indecent assault and two counts of abuse of trust left on file.

Stephen Burton, 55, formerly of Frieth Road, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, was arrested after officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate raided his London hotel room on 14 February 2019. They recovered gold bars, Krugerrand coins and other precious metals worth £742,544, silver coins valued at £8,460, over £53,000 in cash plus €14,120 in euros, five designer watches worth £110,000, 500 lottery tickets, two passports in his name with different birthdates and countries, and several forged identity documents. He admitted buying the luxury items to hide the proceeds of crime.
Pleaded guilty to money laundering and possession of false identity documents. A confiscation order of £928,000 was also made under the Proceeds of Crime Act, and a Serious Crime Prevention Order imposed.
