He also punched, tried to bite and spat at the officers.

On a morning in December 2024, Storm Barfield, a 21-year-old from Torquay, followed a young woman along a dark road as she walked to a train station for work. He pulled up his hood, sped up behind her, and groped her bottom. He continued following her across the road and grabbed her buttocks a second time while she was videoing him and calling a friend. The incident was captured on CCTV. Police arrested him and discovered his interests in voyeurism, following women in public, focusing on their breasts and buttocks, and upskirting. The victim was left paranoid, had her life ruined, and was forced to move away from Torquay.
Pleaded guilty to sexual assault. No previous convictions. Judge James Patrick described the behaviour as sinister and very serious offending, noting the defendant's immature fixation with voyeurism.

On a night out in January 2023, Teddy Hall, then aged 19, was ejected from the Timepiece nightclub in Exeter following an argument between groups of friends. While the victim, another student, was in conversation with someone else and not posing any threat, Hall launched a headbutt with significant force, causing the victim to hit his head on a wall and fall to the ground. The victim suffered a fractured eye socket and nose, requiring surgery, and was unable to eat regular food. He experienced ongoing pain and depression, and his aspirations to study medicine were impacted. Hall fled the scene but was identified via CCTV. Now aged 21 and from Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire, Hall claimed self-defence but was convicted.
Pleaded not guilty but found guilty. Judge noted the unprovoked nature of the attack and considered positive character references including charity work and university involvement.

Roarie Heard, 19, of Lynhurst Avenue in Barnstaple, punched a man to the side of the face in Vicarage Street, Barnstaple, in November 2024, knocking him unconscious and breaking his jaw in two places, requiring three plates to be placed in his face. The victim had been out to a boxing match with friends and was outside an address when Heard arrived with a group of about 10 men. There was some pushing, and Heard thought someone hit him from behind, but the judge ruled it was not self-defence.
Pleaded guilty to GBH. Judge James Patrick noted the incident was night time violence by drunken men and that Heard lashed out, not in self-defence. Heard came to court prepared for prison but was spared due to his youth and loss of good name.

Gheorghe Ionescu, 50, was arrested by police on September 25, 2025, while driving a car under the influence of drugs in the early hours. Police searched the vehicle and found bags of cocaine. Further search at his address in Topsham Road revealed more drugs, totaling 48 small bag deals with a street value of nearly £2,000. He admitted to the offense, stating 'It's all true' to police.
Pleaded guilty. Romanian national who overstayed tourist visa due to drug addiction and agreed to transport cocaine to fund habit. Wife in Romania is ashamed. Expected to be deported after release. Will serve up to half in custody.

On June 25, 2025, police raided the address of Morgan Fellows on Fraser Road, Exmouth, uncovering 17g of ketamine and 113g of cannabis with a combined street value of £1,780, along with £970 in cash. He refused to provide his mobile PIN. The 21-year-old had been given a suspended sentence in February for dealing cocaine and cannabis but continued dealing while under probation supervision.
Pleaded guilty to possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply. Breached suspended sentence from February for dealing cocaine and cannabis. Judge noted he was cooperating with unpaid work but returned to old habits despite telling probation he was serious about addressing offending.
Nicholas Courtney

On March 17, 2025, Nicholas Courtney, aged 46, arrived at Darts Farm near Topsham, Exeter, by bus. He complained of feeling unwell and was offered water but began rocking, shouting, and foaming at the mouth. He entered the kitchen, grabbed two large butchery knives with 25cm blades, pointed them at staff members, and threatened them while talking gibberish during a psychotic breakdown. He followed one staff member to the butchery, but was restrained by a heroic worker using a Yeti cool box. Police arrested him after he assaulted an officer at the hospital. This incident occurred two months after he breached his sexual harm prevention order by failing to notify police of his whereabouts while living in a tent near Bromhams car park.
Pleaded guilty. Will serve no more than half in prison. Has already served 7 months. Suffers from poor mental health, epilepsy, brain injury, and is a drug user who was homeless at the time.

The victim activated a panic alarm leading to his arrest. She described her life being turned upside down, fearing for her life, suffering stress, nightmares, and believing he was evil after he pretended to be kind and caring.
Pleaded guilty to stalking and criminal damage. Has 27 previous convictions including harassment, breaching a domestic violence order, and violence. Judge described him as a manipulative, drunken thug and dangerous. Six-year restraining order imposed.
