He used the EncroChat handle BrownVelvet to communicate with an upstream dealer in Merseyside, a co-conspirator, and downstream couriers, flooding the streets of South Wales, including Cardiff, Ely, and Dinas Powys, with drugs. The operation involved stash houses and cars with hidden compartments. Johnson owed £210,000 to his supplier and discussed raising funds from uncollected debts. After his courier's arrest in August 2020, he fled to Spain, where he was detained on July 29, 2024, and extradited to the UK on August 14, 2024.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to supply class A drugs. Has 11 previous convictions, including a prior 9-year sentence for conspiracy to supply cocaine. Judge noted he played a leading role in a relatively sophisticated conspiracy.

The assault lasted eight seconds before staff restrained him. He had not taken his medication that day and later expressed regret. The nurse suffered scars and ongoing fear at work.

Police seized four bags of cocaine worth £1,170, cannabis, £1,460 cash, empty bags, scales, a metal baseball bat, and a red iPhone from the car. A home search yielded £9,980 cash, empty bags, cannabis seeds, an iPhone, cannabis residue, and cannabis cakes in a McDonald's bag. The red iPhone revealed messages showing Finch, known as 'Jack Weed', supplying cocaine and cannabis to a substantial customer base for financial gain. Total cash seized was £11,445. Finch had only a provisional licence and no insurance.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, being concerned in the supply of class A and B drugs, possession of criminal property, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without a licence and insurance. Allen lost his temper, repeatedly punched the victim in the face causing swelling, bruising to both eyes, and a displaced jaw fracture, grabbed him by the throat, threatened to kill him, and laughed during the five-minute attack. The victim was too afraid to leave the flat until Allen was asleep. Blood was found on Allen's jumper and knuckles, and on the flat's walls, sofa, and floor.

His DNA was found on television cables, and he was caught on CCTV using the stolen card. Additionally, after obtaining financial details of a deceased woman who died in 2021, he pretended to be her to open a bank account in her name seven months after her death, defrauding her civil service pension of £7,000 through transactions including a £700 scooter and £1,117 in total. He was arrested in possession of the stolen cards and a small amount of heroin, admitting addiction to heroin, crack cocaine, and valium. He claimed to have done gardening for the deceased victim.

He appeared nervous and initially did not stop, pulling over in Gabalfa. A search of his vehicle revealed cash, a small amount of cannabis, and a mobile phone. Examination of the phone showed messages and voice notes related to the wholesale supply of heroin and cocaine, including discussions for purchasing a kilo of cocaine for £30,000 and 1.5kg of heroin for £19,000, as well as images of blocks of white powder marked 'USA'. Further search led to the discovery of 20g of cocaine, a large quantity of adulterants, weighing scales with cocaine residue, a note counter, and zip lock bags. Parris was involved in supplying thousands of pounds worth of class A drugs.

She made false allegations of common assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, and threatening to cause criminal damage, leading to Mr Cook's arrest on January 13, 2025, and again on January 23, 2025, after she claimed he breached bail conditions. She contacted police multiple times with further false claims. Investigation revealed the messages came from an account set up by Morris using WiFi from her refuge. She was arrested on April 27, 2025, and answered 'no comment' in interview. No action was taken against Mr Cook.
Pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. Of previous good character. Has personality disorder and developmental disorder. Genuine remorse acknowledged. Damaging childhood with severe trauma.

Upon arrest and search, he was found in possession of a heat-sealed transparent plastic wrap containing 13 smaller wraps of £260 worth of heroin, digital weighing scales, two mobile phones, and £70 in cash. Examination of one phone revealed messages related to the supply of heroin, including threats to customers such as 'I'm going to come down there and beat the f*** out of your boyfriend' and 'I've been kicking people's wing mirrors off for not paying me.'
Pleaded guilty. Has five previous convictions for driving offences but no drug related offences. Has been clean of drugs since remand in prison and had clear drug tests.

Following a message from the Child Support Agency about increased earnings, he sent threats on March 23, 2026, including warnings about smashing windows, cars, or setting the house on fire. Their conversation moved to WhatsApp where it became sexually explicit. He sent a naked picture of himself, an image of a woman's vagina, and a video of a woman masturbating. He encouraged the decoy to masturbate and asked for naked photos of her, then instructed her to delete the messages. No meeting was planned. He was convicted after trial.
Made subject to sex offender notification requirements and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely. Previously received a police caution in 2008 for possession of a pseudo photo of a child. Judge noted he sought to manipulate the decoy and showed no insight into his behaviour.

Atlantic Recycling Ltd breached its environmental permit in July 2019 by storing refuse-derived fuel—a highly combustible form of waste—at its site in Newton Road, Rumney, Cardiff, in a manner that risked major environmental harm. Evidence showed huge stockpiles, including one 90 metres long, with inadequate space to isolate burning waste in case of fire, potentially causing pollution to the Gwent Levels and risk to nearby homes and businesses. The company failed to comply with its fire prevention plan, separated stockpiles by less than 12 metres, exceeded four-metre height limits, had an insufficient quarantine area, and provided no evidence of training or maintenance. Email evidence indicated the company knew compliance would take weeks but continued operations, prioritising financial gain. Previous serious fires occurred in 2014 and 2015, and the firm had a history of non-compliance.
Admitted failing to comply with an environmental permit. Judge Celia Hughes noted the company was fortunate nothing more serious resulted from the breaches. Must pay within six months.

Michael Dumbuya, 37, of York Street, London, travelled from London with two associates to a house in Blackwood on May 20, 2025, where they carried out a terrifying assault on Cody Hudd in a case of mistaken identity. Dumbuya, employed as a professional enforcer by a wholesale drug dealer based in Colombia, mistakenly believed Hudd was responsible for the loss of 6kg of cocaine. Hudd was woken at around 1.15am, grappled by the face and throat, slapped, punched multiple times, dragged downstairs, beaten with an object causing collapse, kicked repeatedly to face, chest and body, had his breathing restricted by Dumbuya's foot on his chest, and a knife pressed to his jawline. The assault was filmed by Dumbuya. After the attack, Dumbuya fled in an Audi Q3 with false plates, leading police on a high-speed chase reaching 150mph on the M4 before crashing. A loaded sawn-off shotgun, imitation Glock 17 air pistol, balaclavas, gloves, and a black holdall were found in the vehicle. Blood on Dumbuya's coat matched Hudd's DNA, and shotgun ammunition matched Dumbuya's DNA. Hudd suffered jaw misalignment, inability to eat, nostril soreness, and split lip, with profound psychological and financial impacts.
Pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, assault occasioning ABH, and dangerous driving. One prior conviction for fraud by abuse of position. Gambling addiction and debts mentioned in mitigation. No evidence shotgun was taken into property or firearms used to threaten victim.

He repeatedly breached a 2020 restraining order by going to her house, climbing through a window, approaching her in the street shouting and screaming, and attempting to pick her up in a shoulder lift demanding respect. During a police response, he struck a policewoman in the face with a flailing arm, causing her nose to bleed. This follows a 14-year on-off relationship that ended around 2016, with prior violence including a June 2022 sentence for slapping, throttling her, and threatening to kill her if seen with another man.
Pleaded guilty to harassment with violence, breaching a restraining order, and assaulting an emergency worker. Discounts applied for guilty pleas. Has nine previous convictions for 21 offences including assaults and breaches of restraining order. Renewed interest in Islamic faith and completed courses while in prison. On October 13, 2025, at 8.30am near Nature's Hand disability services centre in Alma Street, Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent, Rhys Phillips, 22, stood in the street with his trousers around his ankles, exposed his genitals, and shouted 'I'm a paedophile. I like children and I'm going to rape children.' This was witnessed by occupants of passing cars and buses. He was arrested at the scene. Previously, on August 6, 2025, at the same centre, he assaulted support workers Grant West by pushing him in the chest and pressing his forehead into his head, Jason Thomas by lunging and pressing his forehead into his head, and Jodie Lamkin by spitting in her face.
Pleaded guilty to exposure, a public order offence, and three counts of assault. Has 19 previous convictions including for violence, offensive weapons and dishonesty. Was under a community order for a racially aggravated assault at the time. Mental health issues including ADHD and learning difficulties; attention-seeking behaviour, no sexual interest in children per psychiatrist.
Thomas Griffiths

Thomas Griffiths, 34, of Riverside Close, Ynyshir, Porth, punched his friend Christian Dean, 36, a handyman, in the kitchen of Mr Dean's home in Graig Road, Ynyshir, Porth, on June 26, 2025, after drinking at pubs and consuming cocaine together. The punch caused a lateral subarachnoid haemorrhage due to backwards and sideways movement of the head on the neck, leading to Mr Dean bleeding to death on the kitchen floor. Griffiths fled the scene, called a friend admitting he had hit Mr Dean, and was heard saying 'I have just killed someone'. He did not seek help and went home. Police found Mr Dean dead with a pool of blood, empty alcohol cans, and cocaine residue present. Griffiths had blood on his hands and was arrested later that day.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Of previous good character but has cautions for battery and a public order offence. Former boxer. No recollection of the incident, described as regretful and remorseful. Will serve two thirds in custody before release on licence.
Marcus Creedy

On August 13, 2025, Marcus Creedy, 18, of River View, Gabalfa, was stopped by police near the Gabalfa flyover in Cardiff while wearing a balaclava and engaging with occupants of two parked cars, suspected of a drug deal. He fled on a bike, discarding a Nokia phone, but was detained and searched. Found in possession of 30 grip seal bags of cocaine, nine grip seal bags of cannabis, a Nokia phone, an iPhone, and £110 cash. Home search yielded 3.5g cannabis and a grinder. Phones contained messages relating to cocaine supply.
Pleaded guilty. No previous convictions. Remorseful, acted to assist family. Lives with aunty, lost father at 13, recent deaths of grandparents, difficult school time, no qualifications, started cannabis at 14, suffered brain bleed and leg injury in 2024 scooter accident.
Liam Key

Liam Key, 23, of Heol y Mynydd, Hendreforgan, Gilfach Goch, was discovered by police on September 24, 2024, during the arrest of another man at a property. He had sent a text saying 'I'm out by the gate' and was waiting in his silver Volkswagen Golf. When approached, he appeared nervous and shaking, giving conflicting accounts. A search revealed 1.04g of cocaine in a cling film bag and a black iPhone showing he arranged supplies of cocaine and cannabis to at least 17 customers between August and September 2024, with deals up to £380 and payments on tick, including debts of £510 and £650. Further seizure included 23.9g of cocaine, over £4,500 in cash, weighing scales, and cling film bags.
Pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, and possession with intent to supply cocaine. Has two previous convictions, including possession with intent to supply cannabis for which he received a suspended prison sentence. In mitigation, noted to be in full-time employment which he will lose, and from a supportive family.
Christopher Hale
Assault occasioning actual bodily harm *

On April 20, 2023, Christopher Hale, who had been drinking with his sister Denise Hale and her partner Andrew Tolley, returned to the couple's home in Newport. After Tolley went to bed, Hale played loud music. Tolley came downstairs to ask for the music to be turned down, leading to an argument. Hale punched Tolley, who retaliated, prompting Hale to grab a screwdriver and stab Tolley multiple times, causing puncture wounds to his stomach, shoulder, and forearm. Tolley experienced pain and discomfort for days but did not seek immediate medical attention. The assault was not reported right away, and the relationship between Tolley and Hale's sister broke down after Hale sent offensive messages.
Ordered to carry out a 10 day rehabilitation activity requirement and 12 sessions of a mental health treatment requirement. Found guilty following a trial. Has 19 previous convictions for 39 offences. Incident described as short-lived, lasting seconds. Former cocaine user, now mostly clean except for a recent blip. Kareem Abdo, 30, of Alice Street, was the subject of a police search warrant at a property in Cardiff on February 17, 2025. He was found inside with a woman, and a red iPhone was seized, which he claimed ownership of and provided the PIN for. Messages on the phone revealed his involvement in the supply of cocaine, including two occasions of supplying 'high quality cocaine'. A further search at his home in Butetown uncovered three bullets in a small blue plastic bag among clothes, identified as suitable for self-loading pistols or sub machine-guns. During interview, he stated he had learning difficulties and people took advantage of him.
Pleaded guilty. No previous convictions for drug trafficking or weapons, but last conviction for possession of cannabis. To serve 40% in custody, remainder on licence. Judge Catherine Richards presiding.
Jean-Paul Sterckx

Jean-Paul Sterckx, 49, of Watkiss Way, Grangetown, Cardiff, engaged in sexualised conversations via Kik and Snapchat apps in 2022 with undercover Metropolitan Police officers posing as 13-year-old girls. He sent images of himself in underwear and workman's trousers showing his groin, asked sexual questions including about masturbation, virginity, and naughty fun, and attempted a video call. Upon arrest, he claimed his phone had been hacked and expressed regret to his children. He breached an existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order from 2015.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and breaching a SHPO. Previously jailed for 15 months in 2015 for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images. Described as thoroughly ashamed, hard working and caring man who set up his own maintenance company.
Nicole Locke

Nicole Locke, 32, of Pergwm Street, Trealaw, was arrested on February 6, 2025, at Priddle's address in George Street, Penygraig, Tonypandy, after police followed him there. She claimed she had nothing to do with the drugs but her iPhone revealed Snapchat messages related to drug supply. In her handbag were electric scales and white powder. Keys from her led to a nearby Mercedes containing 1kg of cocaine worth £30,000, 0.5kg worth £15,000, seven rocks of 28g worth £1,000 to £1,500 each, and £4,154 cash. The total cocaine seized weighed 1.8kg with a street value between £75,660 and £100,888.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. Ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.

Guy Priddle, 33, of George Street, Penygraig, Tonypandy, was arrested on February 6, 2025, after being seen engaging in a suspected drug deal in a car. Police followed him to his address where a quantity of cocaine and drug paraphernalia were found in the kitchen and bathroom, along with cash. He handed himself in on February 7. The total cocaine seized across locations weighed 1.8kg with a street value between £75,660 and £100,888. He benefited £114,401 from offending but had assets worth £11,516.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. POCA hearing ordered to pay £11,516 within two months or serve additional six months imprisonment.
David Samuel

David Samuel, 39, of Caldicot, began speaking with an account purporting to be a 14-year-old boy named Jaydan on the Chat Avenue platform in 2023. The conversation moved to WhatsApp and when the decoy confirmed he was 14, Samuel sent a photo of his erect penis. He asked the decoy for photos, told him he was 'horny', asked if he wanted to see him masturbate on a video call, and suggested trading nudes. Police arrested him on August 7, 2023, and seized his phone, which contained 11 category A, five category B, and 26 category C indecent images of children aged one to 15 being sexually abused, plus evidence of distributing a category A image and possessing a prohibited animated image of child abuse.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, three counts of making indecent images, possessing a prohibited image and distributing an indecent image. One previous conviction for motoring offences. Judge noted realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
Georgia Hemburrow

On September 9, 2023, at Fagins bar and restaurant in Church Village, Pontypridd, Georgia Hemburrow, 25, of Carmarthen Drive, Tonteg, approached victim Celyn Williams who was sitting at a table. Hemburrow was verbally aggressive and argumentative. After a bangle fell off her wrist and Williams bent to pick it up, Hemburrow threw the contents of a thick whisky tumbler over Williams, then threw the glass which hit Williams in the forehead with force, causing severe bleeding and a permanent scar requiring stitches. Hemburrow left the scene without concern for the victim.
Pleaded guilty to wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm. Of previous good character. Judge Paul Hobson noted she lost her temper for no good reason and left a permanent scar.
Huw Young

Huw Young, 57, of Erw Ifan, strangled his partner multiple times in fits of jealousy over messages from male friends, including incidents in 2024 at his home in Bridgend where he threw and smashed her phone, and on May 16-17, 2025, at his home in Pencoed where he slapped her, strangled her until she choked, threw her to the floor, and punched her multiple times to the back of the head, causing swelling. He threatened her against calling the police. The victim reported lowered confidence and trust issues.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage. Has previous conviction for domestic assault. Subject to a restraining order. Relationship described as toxic; alcohol issues addressed through counselling while in custody.
Rebecca Morgan
