Initially claimed they were returning from a fishing trip to France.

Leo Westlake

On December 31, 2022, at Herne Bay Angling Club, Leo Westlake, smelling of cannabis and slurring his words, along with Fred Ketteringham and Toby Shilling, entered the venue around 8pm, causing a nuisance by shouting, swearing, and harassing customers. After being asked to leave, Westlake shouted insults, took off his shirt, pounded his chest, and punched the first victim in the face. He then grabbed a second man from behind, leading to the group kicking him, causing a fractured ankle, head cuts, and permanent tinnitus. Westlake also pulled a woman to the ground, where she was kicked and punched, resulting in nightmares, anxiety, PTSD, loss of confidence, and inability to work. Another victim was punched in the face, and a fourth was lifted against a van and beaten. The group was arrested and charged with four counts of actual bodily harm and one of grievous bodily harm, but pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Hobday was arrested on September 11, 2026, after DNA from saliva on a balaclava matched him, and a search recovered matching clothing seen on CCTV.

Kevin Woods ran a shoddy vehicle repair company, Harman Garage Services Limited, registered in October 2023, which was fronted by another individual but controlled by Woods who handled customer communications, vehicle collections, and financial transactions. The operation involved a complex web of illegal activity including collecting vehicles and not returning them, performing no or poor repairs, promising but not issuing refunds, misleading consumers into paying upfront, using aliases, operating under disqualified status through multiple companies, employing aggressive and deceptive practices, using misleading advertising, and driving customers' vehicles without permission. The activity was triggered by over 100 complaints dating back to March 2019, investigated under Operation Harmonica by Kent Trading Standards. Despite prior warnings and advice, Woods continued trading under his wife's name.
Pleaded guilty to offences under the Fraud Act 2006 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. Amer Mohammed, a 24‑year‑old Eritrean asylum seeker staying at the Glenwood Hotel in Cliftonville, Kent, approached a lone woman on Margate’s seafront promenade in the early hours of August 2024. After she made it clear she did not want sex, he violently assaulted her, forcing her to the ground and committing assault by penetration with intent to commit a sexual offence, also causing actual bodily harm. The victim escaped and flagged down a passing off‑duty police officer. Kent Police traced Mohammed via CCTV, leading to his arrest. Following a trial, a jury found him guilty on 9 October 2024 of assault by penetration and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. On 18 December 2025 he was sentenced to nine years in prison.

David Derrick, 43, of Ball Lane, Kennington, was involved in a significant operation supplying class A drugs, primarily cocaine, into the Kent region starting from 2021. Intelligence led to police stopping a vehicle on November 15, 2021, in Ashford, uncovering 3kg of high-purity cocaine intended for exchange with Damien. Phone and call record analysis confirmed multiple drug exchanges. In February 2022, searches at his home revealed small amounts of cocaine and cannabis, six Rolex watches, a knuckle duster, an imitation firearm, and £3,000 cash. Further searches of his safety deposit boxes found 26 Rolex watches and two gold bars.

On November 15, 2021, police in Ashford stopped a vehicle driven by a courier carrying 3kg of high-purity cocaine concealed in the boot, intended for exchange with Damien. Phone records showed this was part of a series of exchanges. In February 2022, a search of his property uncovered 19 bags of cocaine in his car, five Rolex watches, and £5,000 cash.

Rebwar Hamad, a 48-year-old Iraqi man and previously convicted terrorist, attempted to illegally enter the UK by small boat on September 19, 2025. He arrived with others and was intercepted by an RNLI lifeboat off the coast of Dover. After being interviewed at Margate police station where he declined to comment, he paid approximately £1,000 (1,200 Euros) for passage on the boat following a refused UK visa application. This was his second illegal entry attempt; he had indefinite leave to remain in the UK since 2001 but was extradited to Italy in 2020 to serve a sentence for terrorism offences convicted in absentia in 2019, after which he was ordered to leave Italy.
Pleaded guilty to arriving in the UK without valid entry clearance. Previously convicted of terrorism offences in Italy in 2019 and extradited in 2020. CPS argued for the toughest sentence possible due to disregard for immigration rules and prior terrorism conviction.

He was arrested in Marine Parade on 5 October 2025 and charged the same day.

On October 10, 2024, shortly before 11.30pm, an altercation occurred in Canterbury High Street during which Mohammed Nour Hgar armed himself with a blade and stabbed Samare Gerezgihir in the chest, causing catastrophic injuries. Hgar fled the scene, changed his clothing to evade detection, and was arrested in Herne Bay around 5am the same day. CCTV footage was reviewed as part of the investigation.

He threw a bin at a man and a glass at a teenager. Price then ran towards a woman while holding a knife and exposed himself in front of several people, including children. He was disarmed by a bystander, exposed himself again, and fled the scene. Kent Police arrested him after a search.

Jon-Paul Clark, 44, of Coney Crescent in Crosby, organised an importation of 40kg of heroin with conspirator Rajesh Bakshi. The load, with a street value of £4million, was stopped at Dover in June 2022. Investigators found Clark’s DNA on the packaging. Clark’s and Bakshi’s phones were identified as travelling in Holland and Belgium in the days leading up to the seizure. A photo of Clark and Bakshi together was found on Clark’s phone taken just days before the drugs were intercepted. Texts were also found of Clark asking Bakshi for cash in the weeks following the seizure.

On April 11, 2025, Michael Harragan, 55, of Gladstone Road, Folkestone, set fire to seven vehicles in the early hours, including a campervan in Castle Road, Sandgate, where the owner was asleep inside and awoke to smoke, managing to extinguish the fire. The vehicles were targeted in Canterbury Road, Walton Road, Military Road in Hythe, and Whitenbrook. The fires caused extensive damage and were extinguished by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Harragan was arrested in London Road, Hythe, and charged with six counts of arson, later with an additional count of reckless arson endangering life.

Charlie Steine, 25, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on 13 November 2025 for multiple offences in Thanet, Kent. On 20 July 2025, he exposed himself in a KFC restaurant in Ramsgate as a misguided prank, leading to a public order offence. On 2 October 2025, he broke into a flat in Queen Street, Ramsgate, belonging to Muhammad Noman. The occupier found Steine sitting on his bed, appearing intoxicated. After leaving, Steine was confronted by Mr Noman regarding a missing mobile phone. Steine produced a sharpened piece of piping and demanded £5, effectively robbing him. Mr Noman's flatmate paid £20 and Steine returned the phone and departed. Steine pleaded guilty to the public order offence, robbery, and aggravated burglary. He had been under a suspended sentence for a prior sexual offence since October 2023.

Stephen Sussams, 62, of Biggins Wood Road, Folkestone, began grooming a teenage boy on July 4 via a messaging platform, initially discussing everyday topics to gain trust before escalating to sexually explicit conversations over two weeks. He sent numerous graphic messages via platforms including Snapchat, repeatedly requested indecent images, and described intended sexual acts. On July 23, he travelled to meet the boy and was arrested while waiting. He refused to provide his phone password to officers.
Subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order upon release and placed on the sex offender register. Charged with arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and attempted sexual communication with a child.

The victim, a man in his 60s, died on April 18, 2025, from a traumatic brain injury.

Lucifer Hunter, aged 24 from The Stade, Folkestone, preyed on four girls aged 10 to 15 over a four-year period between 2019 and 2023, when he was aged 18 to 22. He posed as a 16-year-old schoolboy online via platforms including Xbox, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facetime, catfishing victims into believing he was a peer. He engaged in highly sexualised chats, referred to himself as 'Daddy', requested explicit photos often involving school uniforms or tights due to his fetish, recorded himself masturbating, and escalated to threats including rape, death threats, prison warnings, and exposure of photos to families or online if demands were refused. He blackmailed and verbally abused victims, turning aggressive when blocked. Police discovered 448 indecent images across three seriousness levels on his iPhones after a report in December 2023, along with chats and screenshots. One victim described him as a predator; another felt unsafe after he tracked her to an event. Possessed a five-pack of girls' knickers aged 2-3 with one missing. Victims suffered long-term impacts including loss of childhood, depression, and need for counselling.

On July 14, 2025, in the Hardres Street area, he was seen entering a nearby property during a suspected drugs deal and left by the back door. He was detained, and a quantity of cash and a mobile phone were recovered from him. The address was searched, revealing items connected to drug dealing.

Eddie Burton, 23, from Liverpool, vacuum packed over 300kg of class A and B drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and ketamine, in an Amsterdam flat. He arranged for the drugs to be shipped to the UK via lorries, with seizures occurring on July 3, 2022, and August 12, 2022. His DNA was found on drug packaging, and he was arrested in Ibiza for unrelated offences before being extradited to the UK in March 2024.
Pleaded guilty to importing class A and B drugs. Sentencing was delayed due to concerns he was a victim of modern slavery.
Kenny Sanders

Kenny Sanders, from Guilton in Ash near Canterbury, set up an IT company and promised investors returns of 3 to 20 percent every 40 to 60 days, which never materialised. He conned victims, including friends, family, and a disabled woman who invested 75 percent of her life savings, out of sums ranging from £50,000 to £350,000. The funds were used to gamble on events like horse racing, greyhound racing, and football matches, with some gambling sessions lasting from 7am one day to 1am the next.
Sanders defrauded over 30 victims between 2012 and 2018 to fund his gambling addiction. He reported his own fraud and was charged with 11 counts of fraud by false representation.

In the early hours of August 4, 2020, Steven Biggs encountered two teenage girls, aged 13 and 14, outside a residential property on Freemans Way in Deal. The girls asked him for a cigarette, after which he invited them into the house and coerced one into a bedroom where he raped her. When they attempted to leave, he forcibly brought them back inside and carried out further rapes.

Liam Jones attacked the victim at a house party in Cornwall Gardens, Canterbury, on May 29, 2025, during a dispute over money. He picked up two knives and stabbed the victim four times in the arm and leg, and also punched him multiple times in the head. The victim managed to escape, sought help at a nearby shop, and was taken to hospital for treatment of multiple head injuries and stab wounds.
Pleaded guilty to the charges. The victim suffered a sustained attack and is lucky to be alive, with permanent emotional and physical scars.

Jonah Albanese, a 30-year-old from Snargate Street in Dover, breached his Sexual Harm Prevention Order by possessing indecent videos of children and engaging in conversations to arrange sex with two children. He was arrested on March 18, 2025, following an alert from monitoring software on his devices. A search of his home uncovered two mobile phones containing the incriminating material. This offence occurred after a previous conviction for a sexual offence in 2024.
