On Sunday 18 April 2021, Carl Simpson, 36, from Durham, consumed several pints of lager at pubs in Lydd and New Romney before driving a white BMW with friends Jack Ryle-Thompsett and Michael Phelan as passengers. He drove along the A259 and Romney Road at speeds up to 126mph, veering onto the wrong side of the road, and collided with Sharon Haywood’s Dacia Duster at about 6.20pm, less than eight minutes after his last drink. All three victims died at the scene. Simpson’s blood alcohol was 191mg (over double the 80mg limit). He was injured, arrested, and CCTV and data confirmed high speeds.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing death without due care while over the prescribed limit at Canterbury Crown Court last month. Disqualified from driving for five years on his release.
Carly Dear

Carly Dear, a former PE teacher at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, groomed and sexually abused a child victim more than 15 years ago. She initiated private conversations in changing rooms, offered sweets, gave lifts home, then escalated to sexual touching and took the victim to her address in Whitstable or a hotel for further abuse, insisting it was normal. The victim reported the non-recent offences in 2018, leading to Dear's arrest by Kent Police.
Found guilty after trial of inciting sexual activity by a person in a position of trust, four counts of indecent assault, and one count of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. Placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

In December 2018 Charlie Anderson gained the trust of a man in his 70s who was in hospital and was asked to withdraw a week’s worth of pension money. Anderson agreed but never returned the bankcard or pension card. He provided them to other people, leading to over £3,350 stolen, spent on shopping in Canterbury, fast food, car insurance, withdrawals from post offices and cash machines, and attempts at Sports Direct and McDonalds.
Admitted conspiracy to commit fraud. Sentence will begin after completing current custodial sentence.
Christopher Rogers
Possessing a knife, attempted wounding with intent, and assaulting a police officer *

Christopher Rogers, 31, threatened his ex-partner at her flat in Ramsgate on 31 May 2018. Police were called at 11.14pm after reports he was verbally abusing her, refusing to leave, and spitting at her. Rogers grabbed two kitchen knives before leaving the property. Officers later attended his home, where he confronted them wielding knives. He retreated to his bedroom and threw a 10kg dumbbell at PC Mark Bramwell, striking him. Rogers then threw another dumbbell and a kitchen knife, which missed the officer by inches and shattered on a wall. Armed with riot shields, backup officers detained Rogers. He claimed little memory of the attack but admitted the offences after being shown bodycam footage.
Admitted the offences after viewing bodycam footage. The judge commended PCs Mark Bramwell, Daniel Sheppard, and Liam Johnson for their calm and measured actions.
Claudiu Patrascu
Causing death by dangerous driving *

Claudiu Patrascu, driving a blue Mazda he had taken without permission, with no driving licence, uninsured and with a false numberplate, turned right at the junction into Faulkner's Lane from the A2050 near Harbledown on 26 August 2023 at around 12.55pm, colliding with a motor-tricycle travelling towards the A2 from Canterbury. The rider, Glyn Clarke, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Patrascu fled the scene without offering assistance. He was arrested the next day at his address in Dunkirk. Forensic evidence confirmed his presence via DNA and fingerprint. A witness reported his bad driving prior to the collision.
Admitted causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking without consent, failing to stop after a collision, failing to report a collision, driving without insurance and driving without a licence. Banned from driving for over 14 years and ordered to take an extended retest.
Daniel Davis

Daniel Davis, formerly of Broadstairs, committed non-recent child abuse offences over a number of years, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, five counts of sexually assaulting a boy, and four counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. He carried out some abuse while believing the victim was asleep and performed sexual acts on himself in the same room as the victim. The victim disclosed the abuse to his mother in 2019, prompting a Kent Police investigation.
Denied the offences but found guilty on all 10 charges following a trial.

Daniel Farrier, from Ramsgate in Kent, was arrested on 15th May 2018 after officers from the National Crime Agency linked him to a package intercepted in November 2017. Border Force detected a parcel from China containing 107g of fentanyl at the Coventry International Postal hub. Investigators also linked him to the supply of class A drug MDMA, as well as class B and C drugs diazepam, alprazolam, steroids and cannabis resin.
Pleaded guilty to six offences including importing fentanyl and supply of MDMA, diazepam, alprazolam, steroids and cannabis resin.
Daniel Haine

Daniel Haine stabbed his victim in the back following an argument between a group of people in Ramsgate High Street in April 2022. He tried to evade capture by changing his appearance, discarding some of his clothing, the weapon, coat, and balaclava. The attack was caught on CCTV, leading to his identification and arrest two days later. The victim suffered a punctured lung, and injuries to his liver and diaphragm, requiring considerable time in hospital.
Pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and possessing a knife in a public place.

Peter Savage and Daniel Hake entered the home of an elderly couple in the Sturry Road area of Canterbury in the early hours of 26 February 2020, dragging the man in his eighties out of bed. The man's wife, in her nineties, was threatened with a knife as she lay in bed and the man was cut behind the ear and punched as he tried to protect her. The intruders stole the victim’s bank card and demanded his pin before leaving in his vehicle. They later returned and the elderly man was taken to a local Post Office. Daniel Hake acted as a lookout during the robbery and stayed at the elderly couple’s home. £500 was withdrawn from his account. The victim was then taken home and the robbers left with the money, as well as jewellery, watches, mobile phones and perfumes.

Daniel Locke

In December 2017, Daniel Locke smashed a bedroom window of a property on Victoria Road, Kingsdown. He ransacked every room, stealing silver ornaments and stuffing them into two pillowcases. Neighbours spotted the smashed window and alerted police. Locke left a blood stain on a bedroom drawer; his DNA matched the sample, leading to his arrest on 26 January. He admitted the burglary.
Pleaded guilty to burglary. Blood stain left at scene matched his DNA. Caused significant damage and stole items of sentimental value.

Connor Gibbs was using a property near Radnor Park in Folkestone as a base to deal drugs from in May and June 2022. Kent Police’s County Lines and Gangs Team executed a warrant at the address on Tuesday 19 July 2022, seizing two phones, £900 in cash, scales and two knives. Examination of the phones revealed messages offering class A drugs to users from the ‘Reds’ county line.

Connor Harrison

Connor Harrison, of Shalmsford Street, Canterbury, carried out offences in Whitstable on 9 September 2020 including assaults against two women and a child, harassment by threatening and assaulting a woman known to him and members of her family, standing outside her property, repeatedly ringing her, using concrete blocks to damage her car and a window (shattering glass over a child), and throwing stones at a second woman who intervened. He evaded arrest by driving dangerously on the A229 Thanet Way at speed attempting a U-turn with two deflated tyres after a stinger deployment, leading to a tactical stop. He then kicked, spat at and verbally abused police officers.
Admitted dangerous driving, harassment, four counts of assault including one against an emergency services worker, two counts of criminal damage and driving while disqualified. Was already subject of a suspended sentence for controlling and coercive behaviour.

Courtney Cann, 28, of Beechfield Road, Catford, south London, was identified using a phone for the 'Mikey' county line to organise heroin and crack cocaine deals in Margate in January and February 2022. Officers tracked train times matching drug deliveries and saw him on CCTV using the phone on a train to east Kent. He was arrested on 11 March 2022 in Margate.
Admitted the charges. Part of the 'Mikey' county line which brought drugs from London to Thanet.
Craig Dunn

Craig Dunn, 30, from Dover, and Richard Collins robbed a man in his 70s at The Leas, Folkestone, around 10.20am on Tuesday 11 July 2023. They followed the victim after he withdrew more than £2,200 cash from a bank in Sandgate Road, placed it in his bag, and tracked him along the street. Collins ran at the victim, threatened him with a clenched fist, demanding the bag. Dunn grabbed the bag, snapping its handles, and they fled laughing. They were tracked by police drone, found hiding in bushes in Cheriton Road, and evidence including the stolen cash and Dunn's driving licence was recovered by Police Dog Cloud.
Pleaded guilty to robbery.
Craig Judd

Craig Judd was involved in an altercation in Fulham Avenue, Garlinge in the early hours of Sunday 13 August 2023, during which he stabbed a man multiple times, causing grievous bodily harm. The victim was taken to a London hospital for life-saving treatment. Judd sustained an eye injury, was seen shouting before swinging a knife at the victim, and discouraged members of the public from helping the injured man.

Curtis Pettman

Curtis Pettman, 23, of no fixed address, seriously injured his victim with a 50cm machete during an argument over a moped in Margate on Tuesday 27 July 2021. The victim challenged Pettman at a property in Denton Way after believing he was involved in an attempted theft of his moped the previous day. Pettman took the victim's moped keys and threw them on a roof. A dog bit the victim, then Pettman emerged with the machete and swung it six or seven times. The victim protected himself with his hand, sustaining serious injury. Police were called; Pettman fled but was arrested the same day, linked via a bloodstained dressing gown.
Admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
Dale Bolinger
Attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming *

Dale Bolinger, a 58-year-old nurse at the QEQM Hospital in Thanet, engaged in online chats on the Dark Fetish Network with someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl named 'Eva', discussing rape, murder, beheading and cannibalism. He bought an axe and travelled to Ashford International station in September 2012 to meet her, but she did not appear. He had also smothered a former work colleague, Urlene King, with dry cleaning fluid in a botched sexual assault attempt. The FBI investigated after tracing his email address '[email protected]', and Kent Police later arrested him. He had previously claimed to have killed a child and a former colleague, but these were not proven.
Pleaded guilty to administering a noxious substance. Convicted of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. Judge described him as arrogant and manipulative, showing no remorse, and imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a ban on unsupervised internet access. Also faces deportation.
Donna Grant
Causing death by dangerous driving *

Donna Grant, aged 52, was driving under the influence of cannabis at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone on Crabble Hill, Dover, on Thursday 17 December 2020 at around 8.40pm when she hit a pedestrian courier in the dark, propelling him into a skip under a low wall where his body was found shortly after. She slowed but did not stop, drove home to Fairway Avenue, Folkestone, phoned her insurance, claimed she thought she hit an animal or bollard, and searched the internet for 'hit and runs' and 'body found in Dover'. Traces of cannabis were found in her bloodstream; car damage including wing mirror, light, and windscreen confirmed involvement.
Admitted causing death by dangerous driving due to excessive speed but disputed drugs involvement; judge considered cannabis consumption and failure to stop at scene. Disqualified from driving and must take extended test.
Dean Bushell

Demetri John-Lewis, 29, from Paddington, west London, was identified as operating the ‘CC’ county line selling crack cocaine and heroin in Folkestone. Officers from the Metropolitan Police and Kent Police identified messages sent to drug users in Folkestone from the line in January and February 2020. He was arrested on Saturday 3 March 2020 while travelling in a car in Brockman Road, Folkestone, and found in possession of more than £1,000 in cash and the mobile phone used to operate the drugs line.
Found guilty following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
Dequan Brown

Dequan Brown, 24, of Catford Hill, south London, was involved in running the 'Mitch and Romeo' county lines drug network between south London, Folkestone and Tunbridge Wells. Arrested on 28 January 2021 at a flat in Catford where officers seized £26,000 worth of uncut crack cocaine and heroin, £10,000 in cash, a machete, a lock knife, body armour and a converted live starter pistol and ammunition.
Found guilty of offences including being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possessing a firearm.
Dimitar Dimitrov

Dimitar Dimitrov, 41, from Pazardzhik in Bulgaria, smuggled Bulgarian antiquities worth an estimated £76,110 into the UK hidden inside a trailer full of trousers at the Port of Dover on Tuesday 27 October 2020. The artefacts included ancient coins, pendants, brooches, statues and spearheads, concealed within two black packages taped onto an airline in the vehicle’s chassis rail. He initially denied knowledge of the items but evidence including messages on his mobile phone indicated he planned to deliver them to another member of the organised crime group for sale to antique collectors in London.
Pleaded guilty to transferring criminal property. Working as a courier for a Bulgarian organised crime group.
Edison Cifliku

Edison Cifliku was found at an industrial unit in Ashford where Kent Police uncovered 930 cannabis plants with a street value of £650,000 following a search warrant in October 2020. A sophisticated cannabis cultivation setup was spread across a large warehouse in Lower Queens Road. He was arrested on 13 October along with Amarildo Buzi.
Pleaded guilty to producing cannabis.

Edward King’s property in St Margaret’s at Cliffe was searched after he was found with three blank credit cards with handwritten PIN numbers following a disturbance in Dover on Saturday 20 March 2021. Further blank credit cards, an illegal taser disguised as a torch, computers showing access to the dark web, printed instructions on how to prepare methylamphetamine (crystal meth), and chemicals used in the production process were found at his home.
Admitted charges of possession of articles for use in fraud, possession of an electrical incapacitation device and attempted production of a class A drug. Aged 32, of Chapel Lane, St Margaret’s at Cliffe.

Fraudulent Trading, Money Laundering and Copyright offences *

Billy Martin from London and Darren Bough from Dover illegally sold and retransmitted broadcasts produced by Sky and BT Sports and enabled unauthorised distribution of on-demand films via tailor-made set-top boxes using media player applications and 'add-ons'. Operation run via Facebook with funds received through five PayPal accounts, generating over £540,000 in 18 months (£399,536 to Bough). Warrants executed in Dover and Tonbridge in 2019, devices seized.
Pleaded guilty to Fraudulent Trading, Money Laundering and Copyright offences. Judge referred to defendants as 'a couple of Fagins' and noted they had 'struck at the heart of online commerce'. Mitigation included family reliance, but matter too serious for non-custodial sentence.
David Fisher

On Thursday 26 May 2022 at around 1pm, officers from Kent Police witnessed David Fisher, 44, of no fixed address, appearing to conduct a drug deal in The Leas, Folkestone. He was caught red-handed but tried to swallow cocaine and heroin wraps during his arrest. He was searched and found to be in possession of two mobile phones, one containing text messages from people ordering drugs, and a knife.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply and possession of a knife. Aggressive and uncooperative during arrest, made threats towards officers.
Daniel Noelken
Child rape and sexual abuse *

Daniel Noelken, 23, from Whitefriars Meadow, Sandwich, was arrested on 15 February 2019 following a report of him raping a child in Thanet the previous day. Forensic evidence confirmed his DNA. Searches of his property uncovered hard drives with folders named after children containing indecent images. Victims reported being contacted by Noelken on social media where he posed as a child, coerced them into sending naked photos, and threatened to share them if they refused. Offences covered East Kent and attempted offending in Manchester. Charged on 3 April 2020 with multiple child abuse offences.
Admitted 14 offences and found guilty of a further four. Additional four years on licence and subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Clint Greenidge

Clint Greenidge stabbed a woman known to him at an address in the Newington area of Ramsgate on the evening of Monday 17 September 2018. Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to a London hospital. Fortunately, her wounds avoided any vital organs and she was later discharged from hospital. Greenidge fled the scene but was later arrested in Ramsgate.

Clint Hawkesford, 33, of Minster near Ramsgate, harassed a woman in Ramsgate between January and April 2020, turning up uninvited to her home, damaging property and garden items. On 5 April 2020, he assaulted police officers attending a disturbance, kicking one in the chest, spitting and coughing at others while claiming to have Covid-19. On 3 October 2020, he shouted abuse at the victim, punched a member of the public who intervened, grabbed the woman's coat and swung her, causing her to fall and seriously injure her leg.
Admitted harassment, criminal damage, three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, one count of assault, causing grievous bodily harm, and two counts of assault.
Darren Griffin

Darren Griffin and Jack Mayers broke into a flat in Earls Avenue, Folkestone, on 18 October 2022 and demanded money from a male occupant. The victim was repeatedly punched to the face and kicked in the stomach, before threats were made to take one of his children. After further assault, the pair stole cash and jewellery and left the scene. Griffin was detained the following month after an investigation by Kent Police.

Darren Shillito

Darren Shillito raped a young girl of primary school age and sexually assaulted her. In 2019, police were contacted by a relative of the victim who suspected abuse. Specialist officers investigated, speaking to the victim, analysing her notes, and interviewing others. Shillito was arrested at his home in November 2019 and later charged. Formerly of Victoria Park, Dover.
Found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following a trial. Will serve an extra year on licence at the end of that term and subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Daryl Brown

Daryl Brown, 33, of Westgate-on-Sea, and Lewis Day took part in a brutal attack at Whitstable railway station on the night of 16 December 2023. The victim, a man in his 50s, intervened in a dispute involving Day, Brown, and a friend, leading to a confrontation where the victim was chased and repeatedly stabbed in a nearby alleyway. Following the attack, Day and Brown returned to the station where a witness overheard them arguing about the stabbing.

David Bland
Possessing indecent photographs of children *

On 23 April 2018 a search warrant was executed at a property previously occupied by David Bland in Ramsgate. During the search police officers located multiple devices including three computers and an external hard drive which were taken away for forensic analysis. Specialist forensic software was used by police which provided evidence of nearly 4,500 illegal images and multiple internet searches relating to indecent images.
Pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing indecent photographs of children, three counts of making indecent photographs of children, one count of possessing extreme pornographic images and one count of possessing prohibited images of a child. Subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. Initially denied knowledge of the images to police.
