Harvey Rouen attended a baby shower at a pub in Bodmin on 30 August 2025 with his girlfriend. His demeanour changed while play-fighting and he became aggressive, shouting at, punching, and kicking a woman. He then followed two women to another bar, where he kicked one in the stomach and punched another while forcing entry. When the father of one woman arrived, Rouen pulled out a knife and threatened him. The incident was captured on video. Rouen was charged with affray and possession of a knife in a public place.
Pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity to both offences. No prior convictions. Diagnosed with ADHD; holds down a job and stable accommodation. Recorder Murray told him his actions had ruined the day and that he should have removed himself.
Kim Shawcross
Possession and distribution of indecent images of children *

Between October 2023 and June 2024, Kim Shawcross downloaded and shared indecent images of children. Police found 1,102 indecent photographs and videos on his devices, including 538 category A images (the most severe), and videos of babies as young as six months being raped. He shared images via Reddit, Snapchat, and Discord. He was arrested after intelligence indicated sharing from his accounts. In interview, he admitted the offences.
Pleaded guilty. Expressed genuine remorse and engaged with rehabilitation agencies. Also subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years and placed on the sex offenders' register for the same period.

A window cleaner has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of a series of sexual offences against a young boy he groomed. Steven Butcher, 51, of Palm Court, St Buryan, near Penzance, was found guilty of 10 charges at Truro Crown Court on 1 June 2026. The offences included rape, sexual assault and causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. During the sentencing hearing, Recorder Serena Gates KC told the court that Butcher had used manipulation and non-violent threats against the victim, who was aged between six and eight at the time of the abuse. The offending occurred more than 15 years ago in Cornwall. The judge noted that Butcher told the victim it was 'their little secret' and that he still did not accept responsibility for his crimes. Recorder Gates imposed a 12-year prison sentence, of which Butcher must serve two-thirds before he may be released. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

On December 6, 2025, Stuart Alan Jones attacked his neighbour Justin Orban with a samurai sword outside a property on Trerew Road, Penzance. Orban had made a derogatory comment after returning from a Christmas pantomime with his partner and their deaf six-year-old son. Jones went inside, fetched the sword, and charged out screaming threats to kill and decapitate. Orban tried to defend himself, suffering severe injuries to three fingers on his left hand which later required surgery that failed, leaving him unable to grip and unable to communicate with his deaf son using British Sign Language. Jones also pinned Orban down and strangled him before fleeing. Police found the sword behind Jones' sofa. He was convicted after a trial of wounding with intent, possessing a bladed article, and intentional strangulation.
Found guilty by jury of wounding with intent, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and intentional strangulation. Recorder Serena Gates KC said the attack was out of character, the victim suffered permanent irreversible finger injuries, and a 10-year restraining order was also imposed.

Brian Ramsey sexually abused and raped two young girls in west Cornwall four decades ago while working as a fisherman. He was convicted at Truro Crown Court of 12 counts including rape, indecent assault on a child, and gross indecency with a child. The victims described enduring trauma, including suicide attempts, flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks, and anxiety. At sentencing, the court heard about his chronic health conditions and mental health difficulties. The judge described him as a danger to society and sentenced him to 19 years imprisonment, with parole eligibility after 12 years, and a life-long sex offenders' register requirement.

Martin John Charles Hambly, the owner of Trenant and Ley Farms in Menheniot, near Liskeard, was prosecuted following inspections that revealed severe breaches of animal health and welfare legislation. Offences included causing unnecessary suffering to a bovine animal, failing to provide clean and properly drained lying areas, failing to ensure a suitable environment due to hazardous items, failing to provide prompt veterinary treatment to cattle suffering from lameness (four offences), failing to store cattle carcasses in accordance with regulations, failing to apply ear tags to 16 dairy calves within 36 hours, and failing to register 58 calves within 27 days. A particular incident involved a collapsed heifer found near death, lying in dung with no food or water.
Entered early guilty pleas and cooperated with investigators, which was taken into account in sentencing.

Luke Grenney, 37, from Saltash, subjected two ex-partners to a 'tsunami of harassment' after they ended short-lived relationships with him. Between July 2025 and April 2026, he bombarded the women with incessant messages, threats, followed them, used emotional blackmail, and made threats to kill or harm them or their children. In one incident, he threatened to set fire to his first victim's car. He continued the harassment despite police bail and a restraining order. He was also found in possession of cannabis. He pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court on April 21 to charges including stalking involving fear of violence, making threats to damage property, sending communications threatening death or serious harm, and breaching a conditional discharge.
Pleaded guilty to all charges. Has 11 previous convictions for 17 offences including harassment. Mitigating factors included alcohol problem and difficult childhood. Judge noted inability to accept rejection and minimising of behaviour.

Between September 18 and September 21, 2022, Christopher Stevens, 65, from Chywoone Hill in Newlyn, intentionally incited an 11-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity for his own sexual gratification. Stevens had been in contact with the child over a dating app before moving to a messaging app where explicit content was shared. The child's father checked her phone, discovered the contact, and alerted Devon and Cornwall Police. The incident occurred in Penzance.

Jonathan Pound, 44, from Grampound Road, a night porter, joined the Kik messaging app and contacted a 12-year-old girl (Devon and Cornwall Police decoy account) in February/March 2024. Over five weeks and 15 exchanges, the conversation became sexualised: he asked if she was into older men, complimented her body, requested pictures of her breasts and genitals, instructed her to insert a sex toy into her vagina, sent a picture of his penis, and tried to arrange a meeting in a hotel room in Cornwall, suggesting she come alone so staff would think she was his daughter.
Pleaded guilty to one count of inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child. Mitigating factors: loneliness, mental health issues compounded by 2023 brain surgery, previous good character, father of two young children, low risk of re-offending. To serve half before eligible for release on licence. Placed on sex offenders' register for life and sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

Kalani Jay suffocated their grandmother with a pillow and hands at her home in Penzance on April 2, 2025, because they 'liked the idea of playing God'. Later, on July 2, 2025, at a mental health unit in Bassingbourn cum Kneesworth, Cambridgeshire, Jay placed a pillow over another vulnerable patient's face due to her 'annoying crying', captured on CCTV. On December 12, 2025, in Camborne, Jay threatened to kill their boyfriend by tying him up, knife play, and stabbing his throat, reported via mental health helpline.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional suffocation and one count of making a threat to kill. Deemed a dangerous offender presenting high risk of re-offending. He shouted at the children, then picked up an electric circular saw, started it running, told the neighbour to 'go back to Bulgaria' adding 'this is my country, not yours', and threatened 'I'll cut your head off' if he did not stop talking. The incident occurred in front of the children, leaving the family afraid and unable to sleep peacefully.
Pleaded guilty at first opportunity to possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and racially or religiously aggravated fear or provocation of violence. Deeply regrets actions, felt need to protect wife. Francis Wells, an 81-year-old man from Barnoldswick in Lancashire, was convicted of raping and sexually abusing two children over a prolonged period during the 1980s and 1990s, mainly in Millbrook. He groomed both victims, exploiting his position to repeatedly target them, manipulating their trust and using threats to silence them. The abuse caused significant psychological harm that has continued to affect the victims' lives into adulthood.
Convicted of two counts of child rape, two indecent assaults and two counts of indecency with a child. Judge Simon Carr described the abuse as 'brutal' and 'devastating' with a complete lack of remorse from the defendant.

Sebastian Maier, a 50-year-old Romanian national previously of St Austell, sexually assaulted and raped a woman at an address in south east Cornwall in September 2025. He leapt on the victim and raped her until she almost choked, attempting to force himself upon her when he could not get an erection. The attack left the victim with dark thoughts, feeling sick, unable to sleep, and the shadow of her former confident self, not wanting to live anymore due to the terror inflicted.
Found guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault after trial. Not guilty on another count of rape. Will be deported to Romania after serving two thirds of sentence. Previous convictions for aggravated larceny, family abandonment, and non-payment of child maintenance (not in UK). Judge commented that hard work counts for little in the face of such serious sexual depravity and being drunk is not a mitigating factor.

Barbara Hunt entered the home of her 85-year-old frail friend in Bodmin in October 2025 while he was present. She asked for money for petrol, then pulled his jumper over his head to obstruct his vision while he struggled. She stole 20 pouches of cat food, his debit card, and phone. Two days later, on October 9, she used the card to withdraw £250 and buy £62.42 worth of goods at CostCutter in Bodmin. Identified via CCTV, arrested in November, and remanded in prison. The offence was to fund her drug addiction.
Pleaded guilty to dwelling burglary and fraud by false representation. Has 61 prior offences, half for dishonesty. Judge noted her insight into crimes and addiction, and warned of consequences if she relapses. Includes six months of drug and alcohol treatment and 25 days of rehabilitation.
Gareth Richard Stanley

Gareth Richard Stanley, a 40-year-old fisherman formerly of Tolver Road, Penzance, assaulted the mother of his children at her home in Heamoor, Penzance. In the first incident in August, he pushed her, grabbed her by the neck during a sustained attack in the kitchen, and headbutted her in the face, witnessed by their daughter who called the police. He was arrested and bailed. In the second incident in October, while still on bail, he again grabbed her by the neck and pushed her, with children present. The assaults occurred after he lost control, having been drinking heavily to deal with problems. He had been on remand at HMP Exeter since October.
Pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and battery. Judge noted appalling behaviour, remorse, acceptance of guilt, and four months on remand. Ordered 15 days rehabilitation requirement, 20 days alcohol monitoring, and 10-year restraining order for contact with ex-partner. Warned against drinking due to alcoholism.

Dene Tregidgo, 34, from Porthleven, started selling cannabis and Class A drugs including crystal meth to friends, family, and people on his estate after his legitimate business hit financial difficulties. His home in Trevisker Drive was raided by Devon and Cornwall Police on February 18, 2026, where 228g of crystal meth (street value £18,240), cannabis and cannabis resin, £480 cash, zip bags, scales, and cutting agents were found. He made a full admission and volunteered information about additional drugs in his shed.
Pleaded guilty to all charges. Sold drugs to fund his own habit due to desperation to provide for his partner and five children. Running drugs from home where family was present was an aggravating factor. Will serve half before release on licence.

The woman walked away and reported the incident to police, leading to Parnell's arrest and charge.

Owen Bradbury, a 20-year-old university student from Tremenheere Avenue, Helston, assaulted 51-year-old Reform UK candidate Steve Rubidge during the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival in June 2024. Bradbury exchanged words with Rubidge, who was handing out election leaflets in Grove Place, and kicked him due to taking exception to his political views. The assault left Rubidge with ligament damage but did not deter his campaigning. Reform UK described it as a 'nasty attack' and accused police of failing to protect candidates.
