Tom Rodwell, a 31-year-old trainee paramedic from Middlesbrough, raped five women he met on dating app Tinder between 2017 and 2020. He manipulated his victims emotionally and physically, including rough sex without consent, attacking on second dates, hitting in a hotel, and expressing desires to 'own' and 'choke' them. Victims suffered long-lasting emotional scars.
Admitted 10 rapes, one attempted rape and sexual assault. Described by Judge Paul Watson as a 'callous, unfeeling sexual predator' and 'significant danger' to women. No previous convictions.
Thomas Nixon

Thomas Nixon targeted an Evans Halshaw Ford dealership in Middlesbrough. He made off from the dealership in a used Dacia Duster, using it to smash through a roller shutter, causing £3,500 damage to the car and £1,000 to the door. He refused to stop for police, abandoned the car over a mile away, and attempted to flee on foot. Arrested after a brief pursuit, he tested positive for cocaine on a saliva swab and refused to provide a blood specimen. The dealership also had to spend £500 on replacement car keys. Nixon had 10 previous convictions for burglary from 1998 to 2021, which he said were to fund his drug addiction.
Pleaded guilty to burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, no insurance and failing to provide a specimen. Banned from driving until 2030. Tested positive for cocaine, refused blood test. Had 10 previous convictions for burglary.
Thomas Corking
Making and distributing indecent images of children *

Thomas Corking shared indecent images and videos of child sexual abuse, including material depicting infants as young as three months old, via the Telegram messaging app. On 12 November 2023, police attended his then home in Darlington and seized an iPhone hidden under a pillow and an iPad. A secure folder on the iPhone contained a video of a child being raped and over 1,000 Category A images. He exchanged messages with other users revealing deviant sexual interests. Corking pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of making Category A indecent images of children, one count each of making Category B and C indecent images, possession of prohibited images, and three counts of distributing Category A, B, and C indecent images. No previous convictions. Also made subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and required to register as a sex offender.

On 13 December 2018, Thomas James McDowell, 26, contacted a man in Thirsk using an unknown number and threatened him, saying 'You're a f****** dead man, you've messed with the wrong family. I want my money' and 'I'm coming for my money'. The victim tried to respond but received a series of text messages demanding £10,000, showing knowledge of his home address, car and registration, and stating 'If I don't get paid today I'm blowing the car up'. McDowell was identified through CCTV purchasing a top-up voucher for the phone used in the blackmail. He was arrested the next day. Clothing seized matched the CCTV. It was revealed McDowell knew the victim and owed him £1,200. The victim's family was forced to leave their home twice around Christmas, causing lasting trauma. McDowell initially denied the allegations but later pleaded guilty.
Pleaded guilty to blackmail. Also given a restraining order and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170.
Stephen Greg Scollard

In January 2022, Scollard drove a 15-year-old girl to an isolated location in Seaham, County Durham, and demanded sex. When she refused, he forcibly lifted her from the passenger seat and subjected her to a violent rape. Following the investigation, he was also found guilty of raping another 15-year-old girl in Hartlepool. He denied the Seaham rape initially but later pleaded guilty. Sentenced in February 2026 to 19 years' imprisonment with a 4-year extended licence.
Pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court in December 2025. Also ordered to serve a 4-year extended licence period. Detective stated he had an interest in girls he could manipulate, control and intimidate.
Stephen Henry Singleton
Conspiracy to produce amphetamine *

Stephen Henry Singleton, a director of a chemical company in St Helens, was one of the leaders of an amphetamine manufacturing operation based in Husthwaite. He used the encrypted EncroChat platform to communicate. The lab was raided on 28 April 2020, revealing production of amphetamine oil, hazardous chemicals, and 12 barrels of precursor MAPA. The enterprise had the potential to produce amphetamine worth over £5m. Singleton was convicted of conspiracy to produce amphetamine after a trial.
Convicted by jury. He was a director of a chemical company and one of the leaders of the operation.
Simon Allport
Causing death by careless driving *

On July 14, 2020 at 5.30pm, Simon Allport was driving his black BMW M4 Coupe along Tanton Road, Stokesley, when he drove on the wrong side of the road, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with another vehicle before colliding with a silver Nissan Qashqai and forcing it off the carriageway into a field. The driver of the Qashqai, 33-year-old teacher Amie Linton, died later in hospital. An investigation found Allport had been at the Master Cooper public house before the collision and was under the influence of alcohol, over the prescribed limit.
Pleaded guilty. Found to be more than one-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit.

Making indecent images of a child *

Steven McLone was found with explicit material on his computer after police were alerted to illegal content accessed via his IP address. Police raided his address in Parrington Place, Lazenby, Middlesbrough in October 2021. Found: 1 class B image of a child (aged 5-7) being sexually abused, 5 class C images of children (aged 9-11), 47 prohibited images of children, and a video of a woman sexually abusing a dog. He bookmarked animated child abuse and downloaded files with inappropriate titles. He was subject to a sexual harm prevention order at the time.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of a child, possession of prohibited images of a child, and possession of an extreme pornographic image portraying sex with an animal. Previous convictions for sexual assault of underage girls. Made subject to sex offender notifications for 10 years. Judge noted previous convictions showed arousal by young females.

On New Year's Eve 2022, Vincent engaged in an online conversation with a decoy Facebook profile posing as a 13-year-old girl. He offered sex to the supposed child and dismissed the age difference by stating 'age was just a number'. This led to his arrest and subsequent conviction. On 1 April 2007, in Silk’s Nightclub in Redcar, drunken Stephen Petch punched 17-year-old student Daniel Busby in the face in an unprovoked attack at around 1am, causing two fractures to his lower jaw. Daniel spent five days in hospital, underwent surgery, had metal buttons on his teeth, and suffered long-term effects including loss of sensation in his lower lip.
Pleaded guilty. First conviction for violence. Judge Benjamin Nolan noted unprovoked attack with a 'mighty punch' causing significant injury.
Zoe Hardy

Zoe Hardy, a high-risk registered sex offender aged 24, breached Sexual Harm Prevention Orders by using unauthorised aliases online, including 'Lucy' on a pornography site and 'Zoe' on a dating app and mobile game, and by deleting internet history. The breaches were discovered when Cleveland Police visited Hardy's home in Stockton in July 2023. An eight-month custodial sentence was imposed for the breaches, with an additional one-month term activated from a previous suspended sentence, totalling nine months.
Persistent and deliberate breaches. Judge Richard Clews noted no harm caused to others by these specific breaches. Previous conviction in 2022 for making indecent images of children.
Mitchell Southern

Mitchell Southern, along with Connor Kirkwood, supplied MDMA to 15-year-old Leah Heyes on 11 May 2019. Southern handed the drug to her, wrapped in a cigarette paper as a 'bomb', in Applegarth park, Northallerton. On Good Friday 2024, Michael Mason, 35, of West Street in Stillington, Stockton, approached a woman's home topless and banged on the door. He grabbed her arm, threw her phone to the floor (shattering it), exposed his penis, waved it around and shouted 'Do you want some of this?' in front of the woman and her child. He also kicked the exhaust pipe off her car. He was arrested shortly afterwards at his partner's home.
Pleaded guilty to outraging public decency and two counts of criminal damage. No sexual motive. Yobbish, drunken behaviour. Restraining order imposed.
Michael Holmes

Michael Holmes, a 42-year-old bare-knuckle fighter known as Rocky from Virginia Court, West Cornforth, County Durham, subjected a woman to a series of vile attacks. During one incident, he became enraged and pulled the trigger on a crossbow, which failed to fire correctly, causing the bolt to miss. In another incident, he punched the woman three times in the face, leaving her with a broken nose that required surgery. Holmes was convicted of two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, sexual assault, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. The judge noted he used his physical dominance and intimidation to suppress the victim.

Munir Mohammed and his brother Yusuf Mohammed owned land at Britannia Road and Phoenix Sidings in Stockton-On-Tees. Their company Jap Parts Ltd had an environmental permit but went into liquidation in 2014. They continued operating an illegal scrap yard with hundreds of vehicles without a permit, breaching permit conditions by storing vehicles for more than three years. The site posed a fire risk due to unde-polluted vehicles containing hazardous liquids. They ignored statutory notices and failed to provide an action plan to clear the site.
Pleaded guilty to two offences of operating an illegal scrap yard. Brothers were directors of liquidated Jap Parts Ltd. Failed to engage with Environment Agency during investigation.
Matthew Mccormick

Matthew McCormick, a convicted sex offender, breached the terms of his sexual harm prevention order by failing to notify authorities of regular visits to his step-sister's home on numerous occasions between November 1, 2019, and January 31, 2020, when her two young children were present. He had previously breached the order in 2016 and January 2019.
Pleaded guilty to breach of SHPO at magistrates' court. Spent ten weeks on remand, equivalent of a 20-week prison sentence. Mitigation noted supervised visits with pregnant girlfriend present at times and step-sister aware of conviction. Also made subject to a new five-year SHPO. Judge Deborah Sherwin.

In April 2024, Marc Oakley initiated contact with a decoy posing as a 14-year-old girl on the Whisper app, then moved to WhatsApp. Despite being told her age, he engaged in explicit sexual exchanges, sent a shirtless photo, and requested images. He commented he was probably older than her dad. Oakley arranged to meet at Dalton Park shopping outlet in County Durham, where he was arrested by Durham Constabulary officers and attempted to destroy his mobile phone. He pleaded guilty to attempting to facilitate sexual activity with a child and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Luke Porter, 18, of Beaumont Street West, Darlington, DL1 5SX, travelled to Darlington railway station on January 25 to meet who he believed was a 14-year-old girl named Megan, following sexual conversations over WhatsApp. He was actually communicating with a member of vigilante group Newcastle Hunters, who confronted him. He was arrested by police at 5pm. He claimed he did not know it was illegal and thought it was only 'frowned upon'.
Admitted to the offence. Subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and ordered to attend 25 rehabilitation requirement days. Judge Timothy Stead noted no actual child was involved but the offence proceeded on the basis of belief in communicating with a 14-year-old girl.
Luke Ridley
Causing death by dangerous driving *

Luke Ridley, 24, of Thirsk, was driving a defective VW Bora at excessive speed in a race with William Corser's Vauxhall Corsa on the A61 near Busby Stoop on 7 March 2018. The Bora collided with a Ford Focus, killing passengers George Thomas Turner and Mason Pearson, both 17, and causing life-changing injuries to two other passengers. Ridley initially denied two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and five counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, but changed his plea to guilty.
Pleaded not guilty initially but changed plea to guilty at start of trial on 8 July 2019. Also banned from driving for eleven-and-a-half years.

Mark Roberts
Causing death by dangerous driving *

On July 8, 2022, PC Mark Roberts was driving a marked police car on Dunston Road in Gateshead when he ran a red light without slowing down or braking, colliding with a motorcycle ridden by Ronald Pinkney, 77, and his pillion passenger wife Muriel, 74. Muriel died days later from her injuries, and Ronald sustained serious injuries. Roberts treated the red light as a 'give way' sign, falling far below the standards expected of a competent driver.
Found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Responding to an emergency incident involving a five-year-old child with respiratory issues. Later dismissed from Northumbria Police for gross misconduct.

Mark Robinson downloaded 680 indecent images and videos of children (119 category A, 105 category B, 456 category C), including children who had been drugged and in distress. He shared 16 images via Kik and Snapchat. Caught in July 2020 when police seized his iPhone at work, shortly after release from 40-month sentence for similar offences. Used aliases 'Callum 818' and 'Callum Read', and encrypted data without notifying police.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, distribution of indecent images of children, three counts of failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements, and one breach of a sexual harm prevention order. Has four prior convictions for 35 child sex offences. Judge noted high risk to children and significant breach of measures.
Mark Steven Johnson

Mark Steven Johnson groomed a 12-year-old girl and began a sexual relationship with her when she turned 13. The offences came to light in September 2018 when his estranged wife discovered messages on his phone. Johnson attempted to destroy evidence by wiping the phone and exchanging it. He was arrested and denied the relationship, claiming the victim was obsessed with him. Digital forensic analysis uncovered messages confirming the sexual relationship. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a child.

Lewis Fisher from Kesteven Road, Hartlepool, TS25, had sex with a vulnerable teenage girl. Police were alerted and he initially denied the offence, but forensic DNA evidence from swabs taken from the girl led to prosecution. The victim stated she cannot trust anyone, feels unsafe and traumatised forever, and felt disbelieved initially.
Pleaded guilty. Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life. Registered sex offender for life. Judge Chris Smith noted the victim's vulnerability and substantial impact. Initially denied the offence but DNA evidence proved otherwise.
Liam Mcelvaney
Possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and causing grievous bodily harm with intent *

On 1 April 2024 at around 3.30am, Liam McElvaney and accomplices attended a home on Richmond Court in Grangetown. McElvaney fired a .410 shotgun through a kitchen window, striking the victim (David McKittrick) in the abdomen. Pellets lodged in the victim's liver, and part of his small bowel and gall bladder had to be removed. The attack was revenge linked to a prior burglary at McElvaney's girlfriend's home. McElvaney, aged 23 of Hylton Road, Sunderland, was the shooter.
Deemed the leader of the group; pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and perverting the course of justice. Rapped about the offence from prison and attempted to bribe the victim via letter.
Ronald Stuart Harcourt
Distribution of indecent images of children *

Ronald Stuart Harcourt, 53, of Cambridge Square, Middlesbrough, engaged in online exchanges with other paedophiles between February 2012 and March 2013, distributing and receiving over 3,800 indecent images and videos of children. His collection, hidden on a mobile phone concealed in an airing cupboard at his home, included material depicting a one-year-old child and hundreds of images at the most serious level. He exchanged images approximately 700 times, breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order by using six identifiable email accounts and failing to notify changes to his name in email addresses. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Agency identified his activities and Cleveland Police raided his home. He pleaded guilty to 14 related offences.
Pleaded guilty to six counts of inciting indecent photographs of children, six counts of distributing such material, one count of making indecent images, and one count of failing to notify a change of name. Expressed remorse. Had a 2006 conviction for indecent assaults on two girls under 14. Judge Peter Armstrong deemed him a danger to the public and imposed an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
Robert Graham

Robert Graham, a 56-year-old man from Hartlepool, sexually assaulted a teenage girl and conducted inappropriate online sexual discussions with her. The offences occurred in Hartlepool, County Durham, where Graham targeted the victim both online and in person. At Teesside Crown Court, the prosecution described his actions as predatory and exploitative, causing significant harm. Graham used digital platforms to initiate contact, escalating to a physical assault. The victim, protected by anonymity, provided testimony. Digital records and witness statements corroborated the online interactions and the assault. Graham pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual communication with a child. He was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment and placed on the sex offenders' register. The case was investigated by Cleveland Police.

Robert Green
Wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon *

Robert Green, a 30-year-old man previously convicted of multiple sex offences including rape, carried out a violent assault on another inmate at HMP Durham on 20 January 2023. While awaiting sentencing for his earlier crimes, Green accused the victim's son of an affair with his girlfriend outside the prison, prompting the unprovoked attack. Green approached the victim from behind as he walked through the prison and repeatedly stabbed him in the neck using a sharply pointed metal implement fashioned into a shank. The victim turned to face Green, who then stabbed him in the left-hand side of the abdomen, inflicting three puncture wounds. The victim later reported fearing for his life, believing Green intended to kill him. Prison staff recovered the weapon after Green passed it to another inmate to hide in the shower block.
Pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. The attack was unprovoked and targeted vulnerable areas. Recorder considered a life sentence due to dangerous offender status but imposed a determinate term.
Ryan Beer

Ryan Beer was arrested with Philip Lister at a drug lab in Husthwaite on 28 April 2020. He was found assisting in the manufacture of amphetamine oil. The criminal operation, led by Stephen Singleton and Jordan Blackburn, used an encrypted EncroChat system and had the capacity to produce 523kg of amphetamine. Beer was convicted of conspiracy to produce amphetamine.

Sean Michael Derbyshire, 37, of Water End, Northallerton, led police on a 30-mile high-speed pursuit in a blue Mini Cooper shortly before 1am on October 23, 2021. Officers tried to pull him over on the Stokesley Road near Great Ayton, but he sped off, reaching speeds of 90mph along the A172. The pursuit ended when he crashed into a ditch near Hutton-le-Hole. He then jumped into the back of the car to pretend he hadn't been driving and gave a false name upon arrest. Derbyshire was also wanted for theft, taking without consent, failing to appear in court, and breaching a court order.
Found guilty of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving while disqualified. Gave false name to police and attempted to conceal identity. Also banned from driving for 4 years and 3 months.
Sandra O'rourke

Sandra O'Rourke, 47, of Harbour Court, Hartlepool, committed a series of sexual offences against a child over a period. She pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court to 13 counts including two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, seven counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and four counts of sexual assault on a child. The abuse had a profound impact on the victim, who was threatened by O'Rourke and told they would never be believed. Judge Stephen Ashurst noted the victim suffered flashbacks and the offending robbed the child of their childhood. O'Rourke's behaviour was described as ‘sickening’ and ‘exceptionally depraved’. She was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and an additional one year on extended licence.

Paul Foxton uploaded an indecent image of a child onto Facebook Messenger. His social media account was referred to Cleveland Police in January 2021. Police raided his home in Thornaby in March 2021, finding 27 category A images, 32 category B images, and 251 category C images and videos on his Samsung phone and two tablets. Images included very young children being sexually abused, one in a high chair, and videos showing children in pain and distress. He had a search history for serious child abuse images including familial abuse. Foxton claimed curiosity but admitted sexual interest.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. Ordered to attend 40 rehabilitation days, curfew from 8pm-7am monitored by electronic tag, sign sex offenders' register for 10 years, and made subject of a sexual harm prevention order. Raymond Wild

Raymond Wild, a former police officer and grandfather from Hartlepool, County Durham, was convicted of three counts of sexual assault on a young girl in the 1970s or 1980s in Hartlepool. He took advantage of the victim, who was too young to understand the sexual nature of his actions. The victim confronted Wild in the 1990s, and he initially admitted the abuse and apologised but later denied it and portrayed her as a trouble-maker. She reported the abuse to the police in 2002, but the case was dropped. A review in 2015 led to Wild's arrest and charges. Philip Lister rented a property in Husthwaite, North Yorkshire, and converted an outhouse into an amphetamine laboratory. On 28 April 2020, police responding to concerns from local residents found Lister and Ryan Beer manufacturing amphetamine oil, with hazardous chemicals, laboratory equipment and £20,000 in cash. The lab contained 12 barrels of the precursor MAPA, capable of producing over £5m worth of amphetamine. Lister used the encrypted EncroChat platform to communicate. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to produce amphetamine and money laundering.

Philip Thompson, a 27-year-old unemployed man living with his mother, acted as a 'librarian' for a global internet child abuse ring by collecting and distributing nearly 250,000 indecent images of children, including over 3,000 in the worst category. He moderated an invitation-only website and transferred files to his personal computers. Police raided his home in February 2008 and seized two desktop computers and a laptop. The investigation spanned 33 countries, identifying 360 suspects worldwide and rescuing 15 children. Thompson admitted to 27 charges: 16 counts of making indecent photographs of children, 7 counts of distributing such images, and 1 count of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. A Thornaby man, Huan Yu, was sentenced after indecent images of child abuse were found on his computer for the second time. On 18 June 2023, a police officer from the public protection unit visited his home on Westbury Street, Thornaby, and found an image of a girl aged 10 to 13. His computer was seized, and a forensic examination revealed at least 4,500 indecent images of children, with 52 in more severe categories, and browsing history showing repeated visits to sites hosting child abuse material. Yu initially claimed the images came from adult pornography sites, but he later pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court. He had previously been convicted in 2003 for 29 similar charges and received a six-month jail sentence.

Ian McAninley, 56, of Gainsborough Road, Stanley, groomed and sexually abused a young girl after buying her gifts, during a weekend stayover. He failed to disclose a previous conviction for downloading child abuse videos and lied to authorities, breaching his sexual harm prevention order and sex offender registration terms. The abuse left the victim withdrawn, unable to attend school or socialise, with severe mental health impact. McAninley was found guilty of two charges of sexually abusing the girl and pleaded guilty to several SHPO and registration breaches. Recorder Andrew Haslam KC branded him a predator and imposed an indefinite renewed SHPO.
