On 4 August 2024, during widespread far-right disorder in Middlesbrough town centre, Carl Sharp, a 22-year-old milkman, threw two bricks through the glass door of the Red Lantern Chinese takeaway on Parliament Road. He was filmed laughing and applauding as wheelie bins were set ablaze and projectiles were hurled at police cordons. He also threw a missile at police officers. The unrest, involving around 1,000 people chanting 'take our country back', resulted in £600,000 worth of damage and significant policing costs. The takeaway was later burgled by others. Sharp was identified via CCTV and arrested.
Pleaded guilty to violent disorder. Prior convictions taken into account. Currently serving a 30-month custodial term for possession with intent to supply heroin. Participated in far-right disorder invited by family members recently released from custody.

The officers became suspicious, tailed him, and brought him to the ground after he snatched meat from the fridge and stuffed it into his pockets. He was also involved in three other shoplifting offences in the same area, stealing clothes washing pods and steaks.

In September 2023, RSPCA officers and police were called to Ginette Warne's mid-terrace property in Whitby Road, Loftus, North Yorkshire, after concerns were raised over the welfare of dogs living there. Officers found 30 dogs, including multiple terriers and lurchers, living in extremely poor conditions with faeces, urine, rotten food, rat droppings, and clutter throughout the property. The smell of faeces and urine was overpowering, making it difficult to stay inside. There were no clean or comfortable resting areas for the animals. Nineteen lurcher puppies, four adult female lurchers, two male and four female adult Jack Russell Terriers, and one male Jack Russell puppy were removed, along with two more lurchers from a van outside. Two female Jack Russells were pregnant and later gave birth to eight puppies in RSPCA care. A vet certified all dogs needed removal due to the unsuitable environment. All 30 dogs had their needs unmet regarding a suitable living environment. Three dogs were euthanized on medical grounds; the rest recovered and most found new homes.
Poor mental health taken into account. Pleaded guilty to one offence contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Adam Boyd, 42, had been drinking at home and argued with his partner. On May 6, 2024, he drove off from his address on Fleet Avenue in Hartlepool, hit a kerb, and flipped his car onto its roof on Ashgrove Avenue. He was taken to hospital and tested with 113 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, exceeding the legal limit of 80 milligrammes. No one else was involved in the crash.
Pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. No previous convictions. Was in rehab at the time of a previous court date and has dealt with his issues professionally.

Jacob Trainer, of Levick Crescent in Middlesbrough, attempted to take a silver, black-handled kitchen knife into the Stockton International Riverside Festival on August 3. The knife fell out of his shorts while he tried to flee from officers, leading to his detention. He admitted to possessing the knife, claiming it was for 'chew' with people. He was arrested, charged, remanded, and later sentenced.
Pled guilty to being in possession of a knife. PC Lee Swainston noted there is no excuse for carrying a dangerous weapon and highlighted the incident's occurrence at a busy festival attended by families and children.

Nathan Armitage was driving a HGV when he crashed into a parked lorry on the A19 between the A67 Crathorne junction and the Parkway Interchange in the early hours of December 17. The collision caused both vehicles to spill their loads of groceries and sawdust across the carriageway, resulting in significant damage and a road closure lasting about 11 hours. Dashcam footage showed the HGV veering off course at speed, but neither driver was injured.
Admitted driving without due care or attention. Investigating officer Sgt Chris Lindsey highlighted the importance of drivers remaining diligent and taking breaks to prevent serious collisions.

He stole stock worth almost £3,500 from the Co-Op on High Street in Great Ayton and other stores in Middlesbrough, including one incident where he took £520 worth of stock in a single event. He was arrested by Cleveland Police on August 10, 2023.
Pleaded guilty to 27 offences. Sergeant Jessica Hall-Christie from the Retail Crime team commented on the negative impact of shop theft on businesses and communities.
