On August 21, 2025, Michael Hill, 24, of Raby Court, Middlesbrough, who was hooded and riding a dark electric bike while under the influence of cannabis and cocaine, collided with a seven-year-old boy who had stepped onto Westminster Road. Hill, disqualified from driving, fled the scene after the boy suffered a traumatic brain injury and fractures, leaving him wheelchair dependent and requiring ongoing hospital care. Hill broke his arm in the crash, attempted to flee on his damaged bike, then escaped on the back of his accomplice's moped. He was tracked via CCTV and arrested on September 1, 2025, at James Cook University Hospital.

The assault followed Greener's complaints about being locked in the shower room and his paranoid belief that the officer was singling him out. The victim required hospital treatment but no surgery, and has since experienced anxiety and time off work.

On May 23, 2025, Tyne Wilkinson, aged 37, of Hartington Road, Stockton, attacked another woman in Yarm Lane, Stockton, using a set of keys as a weapon during an argument. She swung at the victim, who was backing away, causing two puncture wounds on the victim's arm. The incident was witnessed by a motorcyclist and captured on CCTV, showing Wilkinson as the aggressor. She claimed self-defence in interview but was under the influence of drugs at the time. She was subject to a suspended sentence order at the time of the offence.
Admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon (set of keys) in public, and possession of a class A drug (crack cocaine). Two months of suspended sentence activated. Has 29 prior convictions including robbery and battery. Engaged with probation service.

On March 24, 2023, during cleaning of a waste picking line at the Aycliffe Quarry site in Aycliffe Village, an employee became trapped in a section of machinery when the line was accidentally switched on. The incident occurred when a senior supervisor restarted the machinery after mistaking the worker in question for a colleague in similar clothing nearby. The employee suffered a fractured shoulder, torn ligaments and a broken finger. An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that Stonegrave Aggregates Limited had failed to ensure an isolation procedure was correctly implemented while employees were cleaning machinery. Another serious incident occurred at the site in December 2015, when one worker was killed and another suffered life-changing injuries on a separate waste sorting line due to similar failures to follow proper isolation and lock-off procedures.
Pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Ordered to pay full costs of £15,637. Effective monitoring, auditing and review of isolation systems is essential to demonstrate that they are working and controlling risk. Incidents like this can and should be prevented by following robust lock-off procedures.

Has 11 previous convictions for 17 offences, including violence and harassment. On medication for schizophrenia.

On June 13, 2025, Charlie Forsythe, an off-shore worker from South Shields, was drinking and under the influence of drugs when he made a striking gesture towards a homeless man sitting outside The Pig Iron pub on Albert Road in Middlesbrough. Captured on CCTV, Forsythe picked up a piece of paving slab outside the nearby HSBC bank and struck the victim, who fell to the ground. He hit the victim again before fleeing. Tracked by CCTV, he was stopped by police, sweating as if he had been running, and claimed he had seen what happened but was not a grass. The victim suffered five broken facial bones, was unable to open his mouth properly, required surgery, and had a swollen, bleeding cheek. The victim subsequently left the area and missed a hospital follow-up. Witnesses refused to speak to officers.
Admitted causing grievous bodily harm. Previous convictions for threatening behaviour, criminal damage, and assaulting an emergency worker. Judge noted the victim was no threat and the attack was unprovoked bullying. Defence cited failing relationship, drinking, and drugs; requested suspended sentence due to alcoholism but immediate custody imposed.

On August 21 at 9pm in Middlesbrough town centre, Shonna Rutledge, 33, of Palmer Street, grabbed a mobile phone from a woman's handbag while the victim was socialising with a group. She also took a phone charger and cigarettes. When the victim asked for her phone back, Rutledge punched her in the face three times. She fled but was caught by police minutes later emerging from an alleyway, with the stolen items recovered.
Pleaded guilty to street robbery. Has prior convictions including a 17-week sentence in April for shop theft and assaulting an emergency worker. Judge noted her life has gone off the rails and recent prison sentence did not deter her. In mitigation, substance misuse issues and lack of stable address mentioned. Will serve 40% before release on licence.
