David Baker, a 43-year-old former baker from Barnard Castle, County Durham, contacted a 15-year-old girl via social media in June 2016. Aware of her personal vulnerabilities, he feigned concern to gain her trust before steering conversations towards sexual topics. He engaged in sexual acts over video chat, during which the victim covered her camera out of distress, and solicited nude images from her. The victim complied out of fear that Baker would expose her personal problems. He arranged to meet her in a Newcastle hotel room, where he pressured her into performing a sex act on him and groped her. The abuse came to light after the victim confided in a friend. Baker attempted to delete messages upon arrest but later admitted the acts, claiming intoxication. He pleaded guilty to one count of meeting a child following grooming and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child. This was his second conviction for child sex offences, following a similar crime in 2007 for which he had received a suspended sentence.

Nastasescu had flown in from Romania to assist in unloading the smuggled goods.

Christopher Bullock, of Whitehall Street, South Shields, sent sexual messages to a fake profile on the Kik app purporting to be a 13-year-old girl operated by an undercover police officer. Messages were sent between June and July 2019, and on September 2, 2019, where he introduced a sexual 'question and answer' game, requested to see her breasts, asked to meet, and sent pictures of himself and his penis. Upon arrest, indecent images of children (including category A) were found on his devices, downloaded between 2017 and 2019. Sentenced for three counts of making indecent images and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Pleaded guilty at a previous hearing. No previous convictions. Ordered to complete 55 rehabilitation activity days and a sex offender programme. Subject to a seven-year sexual harm prevention order and on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
Christopher Carey

Christopher Carey, from Elmfield Court, Bedlington, Northumberland, used social media apps and platforms between January and May 2021 to contact who he believed were three girls aged 12 and 13. He began by sharing non-explicit selfies and messages before describing how he wanted to kiss and cuddle the youngsters and detailing sexual acts he wanted them to perform. The contacts were undercover police officers. He had a previous 10-year sexual offences prevention order from 2017 but continued to offend.

Daniel Potterton, 20, of Boston, Lincolnshire, randomly added a schoolgirl on Snapchat in June 2022 and groomed her online. He drove 180 miles to South Tyneside, where she joined him in his car after disabling her phone's GPS; they had sex before she returned home with love bites. On a second occasion he returned, and she sneaked out again, returning at 5am after her mother called police. Text messages showed she wanted to go away with him, including to France, revealing the extent of the grooming.
Pleaded guilty to child abduction, two counts of sexual activity with a child, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and meeting a child following sexual grooming. The judge described his actions as manipulative and exploitative.

Police executed a search warrant at Walmsley's home at St Andrew's Drive, Washington, on May 2, 2019. In a bedroom, class C tablets, a phone and cash were found. He requested to see their breasts and asked if they wanted 'naughty fun'. He was arrested on 16 September 2023.

The victim suffered burns to his neck and chest and required hospital treatment. The victim stated he felt utterly betrayed and may never trust his son again. Gaunt has a history of attacking family members.

Abdulhamid Minoyee, 34, of Gainsborough Grove, Newcastle, was convicted of raping a woman with learning difficulties, sexual assault, and supplying drugs. He provided cannabis to the victim, intoxicating her before raping her in a flat. The assault was facilitated by Carolann Gallon, who trafficked the girl to the location. The case emerged from Northumbria Police's Operation Sanctuary investigation into a grooming gang that targeted vulnerable girls, some as young as 13, in Newcastle's West End. The gang used alcohol and drugs to exploit victims. Impact statements detailed severe psychological trauma and long-term mental health issues.

Abbi Taylor, 47, of South Shields (also known as Martin Tarling), admitted to four breaches of a criminal behaviour order issued by Nottinghamshire Magistrates’ Court in April 2023, which banned approaching within 10 metres of a nursery without reasonable excuse. Incidents in December last year included taking soiled nappies from bins and leaving them strewn in a garden, as well as similar behaviour at nurseries in South Tyneside such as Cleadon and South Shields where larger nappies were dumped or someone was seen rooting in clinical waste bins.
Pleaded guilty to four breaches of a criminal behaviour order. Recorder Tony Hawks noted the behaviour as a 'grotesque obsession' with retrieving soiled nappies from bins near nurseries and care homes, highly antisocial and distressing. Previously received a suspended sentence in August last year after being assaulted in custody.

Abbie Taylor, who identifies as female but was born male, repeatedly raided bins near nurseries, care homes, and residential areas in South Shields, Cleadon, and Jarrow to retrieve soiled nappies and incontinence products, breaching a 2023 Criminal Behaviour Order that banned her from coming within 100 metres of nurseries. Incidents between December 2023 and April 2024 included being caught with a foot inside a bin and taking rubbish, entering communal bin areas with trousers down concealed in a bin bag, and removing items from a garden bin on Wansbeck Mews. Caused distress to staff, parents, and residents by dumping soiled nappies and smearing excrement on milk bottles and fire escapes.
Breached Criminal Behaviour Order four times. Recorder Tony Hawks described behaviour as 'anti-social and extremely distressing'. 99 previous convictions mainly for driving and dishonesty. Psychiatric evidence confirmed actions not sexually motivated.

Adam Webb, 26, of Ozanam House, Newcastle, already subject to a sexual harm prevention order following serious sex offences against two girls aged six and eight in 2014 (sexual assault, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and sexual activity in the presence of a child), acquired a mobile phone without telling police as required and failed to provide the passcode for another. Searches on the first phone included 'teen porn', 'schoolgirls', 'British schoolgirl rape porn', 'under skirt little girl', 'children's homes in Newcastle', 'famous paedophiles', and 'how to clean your phone'. He is classed as a high risk predatory paedophile.
Admitted two breaches of the sexual harm prevention order. Recorder Geraldine Kelly noted his deceitful behaviour to avoid the order, high risk to children, and 12 previous convictions for sex offences or breaches. Was on licence at the time.

Adam Lumley, of Stanton Street, Arthurs Hill, Newcastle Upon Tyne, amassed a collection of thousands of indecent images of children aged from babies to 15-year-olds between 2013 and 2020. He exchanged photographs and videos with other sex offenders online, distributed some material, and was part of a paedophile network. He took illegal photos of a child doing a private act intending to upload them in exchange for more material. Previously convicted of indecent exposure.
Pleaded guilty to distributing indecent images and possessing 2,611 category A images, including 1,628 movies, 1,674 category B and 3,021 category C images. Also admitted voyeurism, possessing extreme pornography involving an adult and a dog, and possessing prohibited images of a child. Alan Mennie engaged in sexual conversations online with two fake profiles set up by Secret Whispers, believing them to be girls aged 11 and 13. Conversations took place between October 2018 and April 2019 (first profile, aged 13) and March to April 2019 (second profile, aged 11). He discussed penetrative sexual activity, full sexual intercourse, and tried to persuade them to perform sex acts on themselves. He invited one to his home on Tharsis Road, Hebburn, NE31 1LT.
Admitted two charges of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. Also subject to a sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders register for life. Judge noted he is socially isolated and has never lived with a partner.

Police seized a laptop and computer tower from Alan Passmore's home on Pennycross Road, Sunderland, on March 17, 2020, finding more than 2,000 child abuse images and movies downloaded onto the devices. Images featured children as young as five, some displaying distress. Over 300,000 other images on devices not examined. Offending was a long-established habit.
Admitted three charges of possessing 2,253 indecent images of children across all categories, 21 pictures and movies of extreme pornography, and two prohibited images of children. First offender. Co-operated with authorities. Home targeted after news spread, lost 30-year job. Must sign sex offenders register and abide by sexual harm prevention order for 10 years. Aiden Nicholson, of Hamsterley Crescent, Wrekenton, Gateshead, downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children aged between three and 17, including 193 category A (most serious), 93 category B, and 801 category C pictures and videos, some depicting youngsters in pain and distress. He also possessed an extreme pornography image depicting someone having sex with a dog. Police executed a warrant at his home in July 2020 and found the material on a memory card. He claimed the images were accidentally downloaded while obtaining legal pornography and denied sexual attraction to children.
Pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and an extreme pornography image. Must complete a sex offenders treatment programme, sign the sex offenders register, and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years. In August 2024, Ahmed Yahya, 22, of Winterburn Place, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, was dancing in Jalou nightclub, Newcastle city centre. He grabbed the victim's waist from behind and started grinding against her bottom. She told him to leave. His behaviour was reported to security who escorted him out. He tried to re-enter, leading to an altercation with door staff and police involvement. He gave a prepared statement claiming he was just dancing.
Pleaded guilty to sexual assault. No previous convictions. Expressed remorse. Immaturity and alcohol consumption contributed to the offence. Must sign the sex offenders register for five years.

On 7 February, Andrew Davie, along with Liam Ellison and John Quinn, targeted an Esso garage in Sunderland after an altercation with shopkeepers. Davie and Ellison entered the petrol station, snatching bottles of vodka and wine and packets of cigarettes while brandishing bottles, threatening workers. Quinn held the door open. They stole goods worth £545. Davie had 72 prior offences.

Amy Walker fleeced an 89-year-old Alzheimer's sufferer out of thousands of pounds. Walker, the granddaughter of the victim's late partner, exploited the pensioner's vulnerability despite knowing she had progressive Alzheimer's dementia, having accompanied her to hospital tests. She plundered the victim's account to pay for a holiday and other items, including more than 30 high-value purchases from M&S and ASOS.
Pleaded guilty to fraud. Branded a disgrace in court. Has 47 previous convictions, mainly for theft and fraud, and 13 aliases on her criminal record. Also given a restraining order for five years.

Andrew Bennett, of Gleneagles Road, Sunderland, took selfies with a teenage boy victim, then cornered him on a sofa, gave him a love bite and tried to lure him to a bedroom for sex. He had been drinking, told the teenager he was gay, put his hands down his pants, kissed him on the back of his neck and gave him a love bite. The victim reminded him he was a child and Bennett continued until the teenager left the house in tears. The victim suffered flashbacks.
Pleaded guilty to one charge of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two charges of sexual activity with a child. Ordered to sign the sex offenders register and abide by a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years. Judge Tim Gittins acknowledged it was an aberration in behaviour due to intoxication.
Ammar Malik

On September 20, 2024, police stopped Ammar Malik driving a VW Golf in Newcastle and found two mobile phones, £965 cash, and a small bag of cannabis. A search of his home uncovered nearly £3,000 in cash and around one kilogram of cannabis worth up to £5,000. Phone examination revealed he operated as a street dealer, with profiles on two online platforms each having 200 to 300 followers. He advertised deals of up to five ounces of cannabis for £650, encouraged followers to share his link for a discount, and within seven days of messages had 33 conversations with customers. He delivered to student residences in Newcastle and North Shields, charging extra for out-of-town deliveries. Malik pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of ketamine.

Amer Salamat, a taxi driver from Fenham, Newcastle, sexually assaulted a vulnerable female passenger during a late-night journey. He picked up the woman from a taxi rank in Newcastle city centre and drove her home to County Durham. During the trip, he lectured her about religion, professed his liking for her, provided his phone number, and then tried to kiss her while touching her leg. The woman disclosed the assault to her family immediately upon arriving home, and police were notified. Salamat denied the charge but was found guilty at trial.

Carolann Gallon, then 22, of Hareside Court, Newcastle, was involved in a child sexual exploitation ring in the West End of Newcastle, uncovered by Operation Sanctuary. She pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation. She transported underage girls, including two in care and a 13-year-old, to parties known as 'sessions' where they were sexually abused. She also trafficked a girl with learning difficulties to a flat where she was raped by a gang member. Victims were lured with false friendships, plied with alcohol and drugs, and coerced into sexual acts. During her police interview, Gallon expressed no remorse, blaming the victims for their intoxication. Judge Penny Moreland stated Gallon was an active participant, not a victim, and noted her lack of complaints and alliance with other defendants. The investigation led to 18 convictions.

Brian Pay, a 44-year-old registered sex offender, failed to notify police of a change of address as required under the Sex Offenders Register. Originally convicted in 2012 at Hamilton Sheriff Court, he was obliged to inform authorities of any address change or overnight stays at properties where children lived. In March 2024, a detective visited a London property and found Pay living there despite his registered address being in Kent; he had been there for approximately three months without notification. The victim awoke, screamed, and he then took her to a friend's address. Forensic examination found his DNA on the victim. He denied the assault, claiming intoxication, but CCTV and mobile data showed the journey lasted 30 minutes.

On 16 May 2024, Billy Stokoe rode an illegal, defective, unregistered and uninsured Sur-Ron electric motorbike at speed on the B1286 Burdon Road in Silksworth, Sunderland. While holding a mobile phone and over the legal cannabis limit, he failed to slow or steer at a zebra crossing and struck 86-year-old Gloria Stephenson, causing catastrophic leg injuries and cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Stokoe left the scene, hid the bike and changed clothes before handing himself in approximately an hour later.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. Also admitted driving without licence or insurance and driving an unregistered electric motorcycle dangerously. Judge highlighted illegal defective bike, cannabis influence, phone use and leaving the scene.

Barry Rossiter, a predatory paedophile, raped and abused five primary school aged children, one of whom was just three years old, over a period of three decades in Evistone Gardens, Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE6. Historical offences included rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, indecency with a child, sexual assault and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Victims described lifelong pain, trauma, flashbacks and living in survival mode.
Convicted of 23 offences after a trial. Judge Sarah Mallett described him as a 'predatory paedophile' and stated he would spend the rest of his life in prison. Also given a two-year extension to his licence period, must sign the sex offenders register and abide by a sexual harm prevention order for life. Defender noted poor health.

Austin Rickerby, of John Street, Blyth, Northumberland, joined a website using the moniker 'mystical gentleman' and communicated sexually with a 14-year-old schoolgirl, paying her to meet him three times and requesting pictures of her feet for foot worship. Police seized devices from his home in August 2018, finding 70 category A, 23 category B, and 93 category C indecent images of children aged 6-17, catalogued by age in folders like '5-6' and '8-12', plus 15 extreme pornography images and 23 prohibited images. He conducted searches for 'pre teen cartoons' and 'you tube paedo'.
Pleaded guilty to sexual communication with a child, three counts of making indecent images of a child, possessing extreme pornography and possessing prohibited images. Subject to sex offender registration for 10 years and a sexual harm prevention order for five years. Recorder Carl Gumsley presided.

Arron Gray, a 21-year-old resident of Sycamore Place in Killingworth, North Tyneside, groomed an underage girl into believing they were in a romantic relationship. He repeatedly invited her to his home, plied her with alcohol, and sexually abused her while knowing she was under 16. The grooming came to light in 2018 when a concerned adult discovered sexualised messages and reported them to Northumbria Police. Gray was arrested, denied the allegations, but was charged with six offences of sexual activity with a child and tried at Newcastle Crown Court, where he was convicted on all counts.
Found guilty on six counts of sexual activity with a child. Issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to register as a sex offender for life. Detective Sergeant Amanda Harland said: 'Know the law - there is no grey area when it comes to sexual activity with a child.'

Jamie Teasdale, of Sheriffs Highway, Gateshead, made persistent attempts to groom a 13-year-old girl decoy profile run by vigilantes called Guardians of the North for sexual activity. He communicated with her for weeks, suggesting sexual acts, asking for images, and arranging to meet. He was detained by vigilantes and arrested. Police found over 200 indecent images on his laptop, including category A images of a girl aged eight to ten being raped. He was arrested again around two years later with a further 12 indecent images. In September 2018, he distributed one category B indecent image.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, six counts of making indecent images and one of distributing an indecent image. Will sign the sex offenders register indefinitely and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years. Recorder Keir Monteith QC told him: 'You have shown you are capable of harming a child, sexually and psychologically.'

Jamie Topham sexually assaulted a child under 13 in September 2021 in front of the child's parent while drunk after drinking up to seven cans of lager. On December 23, 2025, Jeff Stewart, who was the primary carer for his mother and lived next door, went shopping with her in Blaydon. After returning home, while unpacking, he pushed her into the fridge, banged her head repeatedly against it, hit her over the head twice with heavy shopping bags, verbally abused her saying 'you made me like this' and calling her a 'fat c***', and damaged her washing machine by throwing a stool at it. He had been on a four-day cocaine bender. She called a relative for help and he was arrested on Christmas Eve.
Pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage. Seven previous convictions including prior assault on his mother. Judge Carolyn Scott noted he had been on a four-day cocaine bender and described it as a prolonged assault. Five-year restraining order imposed.

In March 2024, James Winsor-Franklin, a 22-year-old student from Hanover Terrace, Isleworth, London, was caught by plain-clothed officers in the Heaton and Jesmond areas of Tyneside dealing cocaine, ketamine, and cannabis to students while riding an e-scooter. Officers witnessed a quick drug deal and followed him. Upon search, he admitted possession and was found with cannabis edibles, six bags of cocaine worth up to £200, nine bags of ketamine worth up to £60, and additional cannabis at his student accommodation. He described himself as a runner for unnamed dealers.
Pleaded guilty. No previous convictions. Recorder Caroline Goodwin noted he was a foot soldier in a drug supply chain, had ruined his university studies, and returned to live with his mother. He self-referred to rehabilitation and is now drug-free.

Ian Foster Delaney, also known as Ian Davison, was a prominent neo-Nazi and leading member of the Aryan Strike Force (ASF), a group dedicated to using violence in pursuit of Adolf Hitler's ideology. In 2006 or early 2007, Delaney manufactured ricin, a highly toxic poison, at his home in Burnopfield, County Durham. The substance was discovered by police during a raid, stored in a jam jar, and was intended for use in terrorist acts, though no specific targets were identified.
Prosecutor Andrew Edis KC described Delaney as 'one step away from producing a terrorist event which could have been catastrophic'. Delaney was a leading member of the Aryan Strike Force, a neo-Nazi group. He manufactured ricin at his home and stored it in a jam jar.
