He raped her alongside friends, including binding and blindfolding her to force intercourse with himself and another man. He also forced her into a cash-for-crash scam. Offences: eight counts of actual bodily harm, one count of controlling and coercive behaviour, two counts of rape, five counts of causing/inciting penetrative sexual activity.

The parrot was later recovered from Gill’s brother’s house following a tip-off, and fingerprint evidence and CCTV footage identified Gill as the culprit. In November 2018, Denis Atkinson, using the Kik.com username 'denismufc93', posted an indecent photograph of a child, reported by NCMEC to the National Crime Agency. The phone was linked to his address. He then communicated with a law enforcement decoy profile of a 12-year-old girl, posing as 'Warren' (18-year-old), engaging in sexualised conversations, asking for pictures, professing love, suggesting meetings in Cardiff, and planning a hotel stay. Arrested on 2 December 2020. Devices seized contained 836 Category A images and thousands of others; he communicated sexually with multiple underage children using fake personas.

A letter in one picture revealed his identity and Portsmouth address. He travelled from Hampshire to Oldham to meet her when her father was working a night shift, where he was confronted by vigilantes and reported to police. He possessed two mobile phones in breach of previous sexual harm prevention orders. He confessed fully at Ashton Police Station, admitting a sexual interest in children.

Previous convictions for possession of indecent images of children and attempting to meet a girl under 16 following sexual grooming. Judge noted his determination to have sexual activity with a child and that no court order or prison sentence had deterred him. He flew to the United States on Boxing Day, spent five months travelling and squandering the money, before returning to the UK via cruise ship on 31 May 2019 and being arrested.

On one occasion he chased her round a flat with a machete and on another occasion he boiled a kettle of water and threatened to pour it over her. Following an argument, Richards threw the victim down some stairs which caused her to smack her head. Following this, as the victim was laid on the floor crying, Richards proceeded to rape her. He would control the victim’s movements and force her to hold drugs for him at her flat.

In 2001, Ian O’Callaghan, a former Territorial Army soldier and bus driver, committed a horrific rape against an 11-year-old girl in Manchester. Wearing his bus driver uniform at the time, O’Callaghan attacked the child and chillingly instructed her, ‘Let’s see if you can keep this secret.’ The terrified youngster, fearing for her life, did not report the assault for 15 years and kept it hidden from her parents, genuinely believing O’Callaghan would kill her if she spoke out. During the intervening years, the victim endured the trauma of encountering her attacker while catching buses with her family and even spotting his profile on the social networking site Friends Reunited. It was only in 2016, after learning that O’Callaghan had been jailed for 28 years for the brutal murder of 66-year-old widow Shirley Leach at Bury bus station, that the victim mustered the courage to come forward. O’Callaghan had murdered Leach while evading police in connection with the earlier killing, highlighting his pattern of violent criminality.
Convicted at trial. Sentence to run concurrently with existing life sentence (minimum 28 years) for murder.

Groves directed racial slurs at Arthanayake, who was waiting to collect his wife from a work night out. Groves asked Arthanayake whether he was a doctor, which Arthanayake believed was racially motivated, and then used a racial slur. When challenged, Groves repeated the slur and used a further term that was described in court as intended to provoke rather than directed personally.
Pleaded guilty. Recorder Imran Shafi KC told him: "To you they were just words, albeit said in a drunken state, but I hope you can reflect they were seriously offensive and distressing." In mitigation, he is a full-time carer for his daughter, had no recollection of the incident, and character references described him as a decent person who worked with people of all backgrounds.

After receiving a 12-month suspended sentence for perverting the course of justice on 11 December 2023, he returned to Manchester three days later, re-entered the home, confronted the girl and her mother, and damaged a CCTV camera. He was then charged with intimidating a witness and criminal damage. A search of his phone revealed indecent images and evidence of sexual communications, leading to additional sexual offence charges.
