Callum Coady
Coercive control *
Sentence
16 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months, five-year restraining order, probation services regarding relationships, £200 victim compensation
For more than a year, Callum Coady subjected Daisy Martin to a campaign of coercive control, forcing her to delete her social media accounts, isolating her from friends and family, and dictating how she dressed. The abuse escalated on August 19, 2023, at Manchester Airport, where he screamed at her after seeing a Facebook message, threw a glass of prosecco in her face, and threatened to kill her. Airport cameras captured the incident moments before boarding a flight. He was arrested on board the aircraft by police. During the interview, Daisy disclosed the ongoing abuse and showed controlling messages from Coady. Thousands of messages recovered from his phone provided evidence of the manipulation and control.
Pleaded guilty to coercive control. Praised victim Daisy Martin for her exceptional bravery in court.

Sentence
80 hours unpaid work, £100 compensation, £300 costs
On August 28, 2024, during a routine fisheries patrol at Pilsworth Fishery near Bury, Thomas Hodkinson, aged 24, of Queens Park Road, Heywood, was asked to show his fishing licence by an Environment Agency bailiff. He claimed he did not know one was needed but had held one in the past. After being asked for his details, he flew into a rage and hit the bailiff across the face with a broken fishing rod before leaving the scene. The attack was captured on body-worn camera footage.
Admitted assaulting an emergency worker and fishing without a licence. Failed to attend first court appearance and was later arrested.

Kevin Proctor
Stalking *
Sentence
£300 fine
Kevin Proctor, a 47-year-old film producer, instructed private investigators to place a tracking device on the car of his ex-girlfriend Nicola Holt's new partner on or around June 28, 2024, following the end of their toxic relationship in August 2023. The tracker was discovered behind the number plate, reported to police, and seized. This caused significant paranoia and fear in Ms Holt, who installed security measures and feared assault. Proctor continued financial support post-breakup but acted out of curiosity about her new relationship.
Pleaded guilty to lesser charge of stalking. Ordered to pay £205 in costs and surcharges. Issued a 12-month restraining order prohibiting contact with Nicola Holt or attending her address. Defence cited autism diagnosis impacting rational decisions; no prior violence; remorseful and in therapy.

Zoe Marlow
Causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal *
Sentence
6 month community order, £120 fine, 5 RAR days, 5 year ban from keeping dogs
Zoe Marlow, 41, of Kinsale Walk, Wythenshawe, failed to provide adequate care for her 15-year-old brindle and white female Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Laney, causing unnecessary suffering. The RSPCA visited her home in August 2023 following a tip-off about the dog struggling to stand. Marlow claimed the dog had run away and was taken to a vet by someone else, but she admitted the dog had been struggling on her back legs for some time due to lack of finances and transport. The vet found Laney severely emaciated, very weak, unable to stand properly, falling over due to muscle wastage, with a lowest possible body condition score, prominent bones, laboured breathing, an ulcerated mass on her left hip, wobbliness, and difficulty moving. The condition loss was estimated over at least two weeks, and no veterinary care had been sought despite signs of underweight, weakness, and lethargy. Laney was taken to Greater Manchester Animal Hospital and euthanized to end her suffering.
Pleaded guilty to one count of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. Inspector Rachel Whalley commented that the owner failed to seek veterinary treatment or feed the dog adequately despite clear signs of poor condition.

Sentence

Plain-clothed officers intervened, but he became abusive, grabbed an officer's arm, swung him around, and attempted to drag him towards the Rochdale Canal. He was subsequently detained and found guilty.
Pleaded not guilty and continued to deny charges of assault of an emergency worker.

Littering *
Sentence
£433 fine
Steve Jones was wrongly prosecuted for dropping a cigarette butt on Market Street in Manchester on December 14, 2024, despite being 200 miles away in Maidstone, Kent, at a funeral director's. The error occurred due to incorrect information provided to enforcement officers and failures in council procedures, leading to a fixed-penalty notice and subsequent prosecution.
