On 26 July 2023, at about 7:45pm in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, Sharon Abraham, driving a grey Lexus at an estimated 52mph in a 30mph zone, struck 75-year-old Andrew Forrest on a zebra crossing. Abraham paused momentarily but then drove off, leaving Mr Forrest fatally injured at the scene. He failed to report the accident. The next morning, he purchased a cover for his car to conceal the damage. He was arrested 16 hours after the collision. Abraham had passed his UK driving test only hours earlier, having previously held a driving licence abroad for nine years. He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Reece Pettitt, of Charrington Way, Broadbridge Heath, raped a 17-year-old girl at a hostel in Horsham, West Sussex, where they both lived. The offender, then 20 years old, invited himself into her room, made unwanted sexual approaches, ignored her pleas to leave, and carried out the rape in October 2015. Pettitt and the victim barely knew each other.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for life. He was found not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Richard White, 44, unemployed, of Timberlands, Storrington, travelled to try to meet someone he thought was a teenage girl for sex in Crawley after online contact. He was arrested by Sussex Police Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), working with South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), in a car park at Crawley in December 2019, where communications devices were seized.
Pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to attempting to arrange a child sexual offence. Registered sex offender for 10 years. Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
Robert Longstaffe

Robert Longstaffe stored and distributed cocaine and cannabis on behalf of Melik Yalcin's criminal network in Hastings. Arrested in spring 2022 as part of Operation Centurion, he pleaded guilty to charges including possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, and possessing criminal property. He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 10 November 2023.

Robert Michael Blackmore, a former volunteer football coach in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, groomed a boy in the early 1990s, whom he met through youth football activities. He built trust by offering the boy work in his electronics business and trips, including to Old Trafford. During isolated encounters, he indecently assaulted the victim. Blackmore had been previously convicted in 2004 of 11 counts of indecent assault on boys and changed his name to Michael O'Neill after release. A new victim came forward in 2020, leading to charges. On 13 January 2023 at Lewes Crown Court, he admitted six charges of indecent assault on a boy. The victim described profound and lasting trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Terrence White, 34, of Mill Road, Worthing, was involved in a large-scale drug supply conspiracy in the Worthing area between March 2020 and June 2021. The investigation, Operation Smith, led by Sussex Police's Serious Organised Crime Unit, seized cocaine and cannabis valued up to £600,000 and cash totalling almost £160,000. White admitted conspiring to supply cocaine.

Sukhdeav Singh, 58, of City Way, Rochester, Kent, was a market trader caught selling counterfeit trainers, shoes and boots at Rye Market. He pleaded guilty in February 2023 to 13 counts of trademark theft for having in his possession for sale counterfeit footwear with a retail value if genuine of over £170,000. East Sussex Trading Standards brought proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act, and at a hearing on March 11, 2024 at Lewes Crown Court, he was made subject to a Confiscation Order to pay £60,000 within three months. His Honour Judge Van Der Zwart noted that the criminal conduct amounted to £60,000 and that Singh had available assets in that sum.
Pleaded guilty in February 2023 to 13 counts of trademark theft. The counterfeit footwear had a retail value if genuine of over £170,000. The confiscation order was made under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order *

Steven Shevlin, 34, of Stoney Lane, Shoreham, a registered sex offender, was stopped near Arundel last November by the Specialist Enforcement Unit acting on intelligence from the Violent Sex Offender Register Team. He was driving a Ford Transit that he had failed to register with police, breaching a sexual harm prevention order imposed in 2020. The vehicle had false number plates, and he was driving without insurance. A search of the vehicle uncovered cannabis, an extendable baton, and a knuckle duster. Shevlin failed a roadside drug test and subsequently refused to provide a blood specimen for analysis. He admitted the breach, as well as driving with false plates and without insurance, possession of cannabis and weapons, and refusing a blood test. The court heard that he had a history of drug use, sexual offending including acts of indecency and exposure, violence, and prior possession of weapons.
Also banned from driving for three years. Admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order imposed in 2020 by failing to register a vehicle. Found with cannabis, an extendable baton and knuckle duster. Failed a roadside drug test and refused to provide a blood specimen. Had false number plates and no insurance. History of drug use, sexual offending including indecency and exposure, violence, and previous weapons possession.

Stephen Agate, 37, unemployed, of Wordsworth Road, Worthing, associated with a single mother who had young daughters within four months of being released from prison on supervision licence. Police found he was staying at her address after unexplained absence from his approved address. He was arrested and charged with breaching SHPO and sex offender notification requirements.
Pleaded guilty to breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) severely restricting unsupervised access to young children, and breaching lifelong requirement to notify address as Registered Sex Offender. Previously sentenced to 4 years imprisonment in July 2015 for sexual offences against an 8-year-old girl.

Walter Ulndreaj, along with Donat Kurtaj, was involved in running a cannabis farm at a unit on the Riverside Industrial Estate, Bridge Road, Littlehampton. On 12 January 2024, police attended and found more than 1,000 cannabis plants and cultivation equipment. Both were arrested at the premises. They admitted cultivating cannabis.

Wayne McFarlane, 28, of Cornell Square, Lambeth, was arrested on 11 October 2023 in Fulwell Road, London, by Sussex Police and the Met Police's Op Orochi team. He was identified as co-controller of the 'JC' county line supplying crack cocaine and heroin from London to Crawley. A search of his address uncovered various drugs. He pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin.

William Mousdell, 49, of Beeches Crescent in Crawley, was arrested at his home on 14 December 2022 after police linked his address to the uploading of indecent images of children to the internet. Several devices were seized and found to contain thousands of indecent images, including hundreds of Category A moving and still images. Some of the images were non-sexual pictures of children known to him, which had been edited to appear to show sexual and violent acts. He was convicted of three counts of making or possessing indecent images of children.

Nine months later assaulted another domestic partner while waiting for taxi, damaging her phone. On June 7, 2025, chased a man with a metal bar.

Tyrese Cannon

Tyrese Cannon was involved in a series of vehicle thefts and burglaries across East Sussex between July and August last year. The thefts targeted high-powered Jaguar, Land Rover, and Range Rover vehicles in the Bexhill, Hastings, and Eastbourne areas. Two burglaries were reported in Bexhill on 28 July and 21 September, and criminal damage occurred at a building site in Bexhill on 26 August. Cannon was arrested and charged with seven counts of theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of burglary, and one count of criminal damage.
Pleaded guilty to all charges. Also disqualified from driving for 12 months, ordered to complete 150 hours unpaid work, and a rehabilitation programme.

On 3 January 2024, Zac Brazil entered a property in Pengelly Gardens, Littlehampton, armed with a knife and threatened the residents. Later the same day, he entered a property in Ravenscroft, Storrington, threatened a woman with a knife causing minor injuries, then stamped on her glasses damaging them. When arrested, he was found in possession of cannabis. The previous day he had driven while disqualified and without insurance.
Pleaded guilty to criminal damage, common assault, affray, possession of a knife, possession of a Class B drug, failing to cooperate with a preliminary test, driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified. Also handed a five-year Serious Violence Reduction Order (SVRO) giving police powers to search him at any time in a public place.
