This resulted in faulty connections with no main earth connection to the incoming electrical supply, causing a fault to make metal pipework in the shower room live with dangerous voltage. On January 2020, Mustafa Ozbek, living in a room behind the café, was electrocuted and died as a result. Croydon Council’s food and safety team investigated, and Health and Safety Executive inspectors found the electrical system unsatisfactory with potentially dangerous items.
