Jason Higgins from Hemel Hempstead engaged in a pattern of abuse during a brief relationship with his victim. He exhibited controlling and coercive behaviour by dictating what she could wear, how she interacted with others, and monitoring her movements, including setting up a camera in the bedroom. On April 6, 2024, he assaulted her by throwing her to the floor and kicking her while she was asleep, resulting in bruising. He also committed two counts of rape. When the victim attempted to end the relationship, he bombarded her with phone calls, video calls, voice notes, texts, and threats to harm both her and himself.
Found guilty after an 11-day trial. Handed a 20-year restraining order and placed on the sexual offenders register for life. Judge commented on manipulation, control, and humiliation of the victim.
Alfarooq Makinde
Possession with intent to supply crack cocaine *

On the evening of 13 December 2023, police were on patrol in the Market Square, Cambridge, when they spotted Alfarooq Makinde sat on one of the market tables. Underneath the table they found a machete and arrested him. In custody, officers found a bundle of 25 crack cocaine wraps hidden in his bottom. He is an 18-year-old from Gold Street, March.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, possession of a knife in a public place and possession of cannabis.
Joshua Fowler
Attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child *

Joshua Fowler, 27, of Coronation Avenue, Whittlesey, Peterborough, messaged who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl in November and December 2023 using the Kik app, sending sexual messages, a video of himself performing a sex act, photos of his genitalia, and expressing love for seeing teenage girls in school uniforms. Despite the 'girl' stating her age, his messages were entirely sexual. He was arrested in early 2024, and his phone contained one category C and five category A indecent images of children, membership in group chats sharing child sexual abuse material, and four extreme pornographic images of adults with animals. While on bail, in late October 2024, he contacted another '14-year-old girl' (second undercover officer) via Kik and Snapchat, attempting to incite sexual activity. He answered no comment in interview.
Admitted all offences at a previous court hearing. Det Sgt Jonathan Lockwood commented on the case, noting Fowler's failure to learn from his first arrest.

On December 13, 2023, at 7.30pm, two police officers had parked their car in High Street, Chatteris, and were speaking to a member of the public when they heard a loud crash. They turned to see that Firat Gundaz, driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa, had crashed into the back of their police car. Gundaz was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Charged with drink driving after providing a breath reading of 120 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes. Evidential reading of 111 microgrammes.
Jessica Malpas

Jessica Malpas, 34, was one of four people found inside 25B Lincoln Road, a flat partially closed by police in December 2023 following complaints of drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, and exploitation of the tenant, on 3 January 2024, despite the order forbidding visitors. Police searched the flat and arrested all four, but no further action was taken against Malpas regarding the drug offences discovered.
Admitted breaching a closure order. No further action taken in relation to drug offences.

On 7 August 2023, at around 5.45pm in Sheep Market, St Ives, Emma Coppolaro, aged 44, was part of a group of four people (three men and a woman) who attacked a shop worker as the shop was shutting, causing injuries including a black eye. The attack was reportedly motivated by one of the attackers having previously been barred from the shop for shoplifting. There were eight witnesses, and police arrested the perpetrators soon after. Coppolaro, who also uses the surname Dymoke and is now of Payne Road, Sawtry, but previously of Fox Grove, Godmanchester, was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating.
Also handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning her from entering St Ives, Lammas Gardens or any property within Lammas Gardens in Huntingdon, Huntingdon town centre between 8am and 8pm except for prearranged or agreed appointments, and Huntingdon bus station at any time. The CBO is for five years. PC Janine Hagger hopes the order will provide respite to businesses and individuals, with breaches dealt with robustly.

On 23 November 2023, at about 8pm, Mohammed Fatah, 25, of no fixed address, was caught by management at The College Arms pub in Broadway, Peterborough, trying to drink customers’ leftover drinks from the glass washing area. When asked to leave, he refused, stated he needed to urinate, exposed himself, and urinated on the floor and a female member's leg. She tried to move away, but he continued while walking towards her. Members of the public removed him before police arrived, located, and arrested him in Broadway.
Previously admitted common assault and indecent exposure. Ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the victim. Placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years. Recent prior sentence for assaulting a staff member at Asda.

Bike theft and possession of a class A drug *

Danny Bygrave, 39, of Turner Road, Colchester, stole a cherished silver Carrera Vulcan bike from outside Sainsbury’s superstore in Germain Walk, Huntingdon, on 10 August. He was captured on the store’s CCTV brazenly breaking the lock and wheeling the bike away alongside his own. Officers identified him from the footage and he was sentenced after pleading guilty.
Previously pleaded guilty to two counts of bike theft and possession of a class A drug.

In January 2020, police searched the room Cristian Sirbu was renting in Farringford Close, Cambridge, and found £780 stashed in a wash bag along with cocaine, scales, and a phone containing hundreds of messages linking him to the supply of cocaine and cannabis.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis.

Michael Mortimer was involved in two incidents in Peterborough. On 16 April 2023, he was spotted shouting outside a house with a large kitchen knife, using a tile as a shield, after drinking and taking cocaine. He gave a false name to police, leading to an innocent man attending court three times. On 18 March 2024, he was seen climbing a wall and a shed with a large knife, damaging the shed roof, and again gave the same false name. Video footage captured the incidents. He claimed the knife was for protection due to a feud and admitted throwing it into a tree.
Admitted the charges. Sentence also accounts for breaching a previous suspended sentence.

Mindaugas Savickas was involved in a gang that stole 22 luxury keyless cars worth over £500,000 from driveways in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire between April and September of the previous year. The vehicles included Range Rovers, Land Rover Discoverys, Jaguars, and a BMW. The gang employed advanced methods to steal the cars, and Savickas's fingerprints were found on a stolen Range Rover. Mobile phone analysis linked him to the movements of the stolen vehicles.

Osvaldas Milius, along with two others, was part of a gang that stole 22 luxury keyless cars worth over £500,000 from various locations in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire between April and September of the previous year. The stolen vehicles included Range Rovers, Land Rover Discoverys, Jaguars, and a BMW. The gang used sophisticated equipment to access and drive away the vehicles, which were later found with cloned number plates. Milius's fingerprints and DNA were found on a stolen Range Rover.
Pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal motor vehicles and knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order.

Kornelijus Girdeika participated in a gang that stole 22 luxury keyless cars worth over £500,000 from various locations in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire between April and September of the previous year. The stolen cars comprised Range Rovers, Land Rover Discoverys, Jaguars, and a BMW. His fingerprint was found on a cloned number plate fitted to a stolen Range Rover, and evidence from mobile phones connected him to the theft operations.

Malcolm Parker was stopped by firearms officers at the Cresset Centre in Bretton on July 8, 2023, where he was found carrying a 9mm calibre Kimel AP-9 self-loading pistol and 88 rounds of ammunition in a bag. Analysis of his phone showed he had travelled to Junior Rankin's home earlier that day, and CCTV captured him leaving with the bag. The firearm was seized and made safe.

Junior Rankin was arrested at his home in Rightwell East, Bretton, after analysis of phone records revealed 14 calls and texts between him and Malcolm Parker from July 1 to July 7, 2023. CCTV showed Parker arriving at Rankin's home without a bag and leaving with one containing the firearm and ammunition, indicating Rankin had supplied the items.
Pleaded guilty to selling a prohibited weapon and selling ammunition to a person who does not hold a firearm certificate.

Shop theft and breaching Criminal Behaviour Order *

Owen Graham, of Discovery Way, Cambridge, was arrested on Friday, 2 June, for a string of offences. He pleaded guilty to two counts of shop theft on 8 January and 31 March at Co-Ops in Milton and Chesterton, where he stole washing products worth more than £100. He also pleaded guilty to four counts of breaching a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order issued on 13 May 2021, which prohibited him from entering specified stores in Cambridge or within the boundary of the M11, A11, and A14.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of shop theft and four counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order. The 45-year-old has a history of prolific theft and flagrant disregard for court orders. PC Ryan Rankin noted his abusive behaviour towards shop workers.

Tihomir Slavov

On October 14, 2022, Tihomir Slavov forced his way into the victim's room at a property in Chestnut Close, Huntingdon, punched the victim, threatened him with a knife, stole his mobile phone, and demanded his bank cards. A struggle ensued during which Slavov stabbed the victim several times in the forearm, thigh, and face. The victim required hospital treatment for the injuries, which are likely to result in permanent scarring. Prior incidents included Slavov stealing cigarettes from the victim on October 10, 2022, and arguments over rent and property damage.
Admitted to assault causing grievous bodily harm without intent, attempted robbery, burglary, criminal damage, and theft from a person. Detective Sergeant Kenny Reeves commented that Slavov's behaviour was unacceptable and noted that the victim is likely to have permanent scarring from the injuries.
Kamil Mielncizk
Breach of Criminal Behaviour Order *

Kamil Mielncizk, 31, of no fixed address, was found inside the Wisbech Recycling Centre on Thursday, 11 May, by the local neighbourhood policing team during routine patrols. He entered through a fence and was routing through a skip. This breached a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued in June last year after conviction for multiple thefts by finding and being found in enclosed premises. The CBO prohibited him from entering any recycling centre in Cambridgeshire while closed, among other conditions. The incident relates to ongoing anti-social behaviour complaints about an illegal encampment near the centre.
Admitted being found in enclosed premises, breaching a CBO – namely entering Wisbech Recycling Centre, and breaching a previously suspended prison sentence. Homeless man living on a campsite next to the centre who has refused offers of help.

Karen Morley faked her son's cancer diagnosis in Cambridge, starting in January 2022, by informing his school, family, and social media that he had cancer. She provided a fake NHS letter as proof, raised £218 through a JustGiving fundraiser which she transferred to her bank account, and arranged for her son's hair to be shaved for free. She told her son he had cancer and gave him multivitamins disguised as medicine, leading to his psychological, developmental, and emotional harm, as well as missed education.
Pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. Judge noted mitigating factors including early guilty plea, previous good character, remorse, and mental health issues. Sentence suspended due to realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

Tariq Malin, 42, of Worsley, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, was spotted by police in a Ford Fiesta making a suspected drug exchange in Tennyson Road, Peterborough, in May 2020. Officers stopped the vehicle and found class A drugs under both front seats with a street value of more than £3,000. A hammer and a knuckle duster were also found in the glove compartment. Malin was one of four men travelling across Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, and Rutland dealing and collecting drugs and money.
Pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply cocaine; found guilty of possession with intent to supply cocaine; found not guilty of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Breaching Criminal Behaviour Order and racially aggravated public order offence *

Earl Allen, 50, of Towler Street, Peterborough city centre, was seen by CCTV operators outside Argo Lounge in Bridge Street approaching members of the public with hands held together in a pleading motion on Thursday evening last week, flouting a clause of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) imposed on 12 August not to approach any person with the intention of asking for money or any other object. This triggered the activation of his 12-week suspended sentence for four prior breaches of the CBO. He was arrested and admitted breaching his CBO and a racially aggravated public order offence after abusing a police officer while being arrested. The CBO also stipulated he must not place or hold any item to attract money or cause anti-social behaviour causing harassment, alarm, or distress in a public place. He had not engaged with offers of help under Operation Luscombe.
Suspended sentence activated for breaching Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) and admitted racially aggravated public order offence after abusing a police officer during arrest. Described as prolific, aggressive beggar whose behaviour is often intimidating and threatening. Despite offers of help and support, continued to cause nuisance to the public.

Malachi Otubela-Jackson, 21, of Queens Meadow, Cambridge, was spotted by officers carrying out a suspected drug deal in Mill Road, Cambridge, on 21 November 2022. He was searched and found with 13 wraps of cocaine and 15 wraps of heroin as well as £160 in cash.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. Previously sentenced to two years and eight months for drugs offences in January 2021.

Wayne McKie, 44, of no fixed address, broke a window to a jewellery and accessories shop in Westgate Arcade, Queensgate, Peterborough, using a brick in the early hours of 12 October 2022, causing £10,000 in damage and lost trade. He reached into the window display and stole several items of jewellery and accessories before making off on a bike. A security guard saw him on CCTV and caught him returning to steal more goods. McKie hit the guard to the back and head to break free. Forensics found traces of his blood at the scene after he cut himself on the glass.
Pleaded guilty to common assault and theft.

Declan Hyland, 25, was in Norfolk Street, Peterborough, at 2am on Thursday (24 November) when he called 999 and said he had a machete in a bag. He threatened to “hurt people” as he wanted to go back to prison. Police arrested Hyland and found the large machete with a wooden handle in a black drawstring bag.
Pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in public. Had spent 12 weeks in prison last year for burglary.

Ian Stewart murdered his first wife Diane Stewart, aged 47, in 2010 at their family home in Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire. He staged her death to appear as an epileptic fit, claiming he found her collapsed in the garden after returning from the supermarket. Evidence from her donated brain revealed lack of oxygen over 35 minutes to an hour, likely caused by smothering or restriction of breathing. No full toxicology or neck dissection was performed at the initial post-mortem, which recorded her death as Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). This conviction followed his 2017 guilty verdict for murdering his fiancée Helen Bailey in 2016, during which her body was dumped in a cesspit at their £1.5 million home in Royston, Hertfordshire.
Sentenced by Mr Justice Simon Bryan for the murder of his first wife Diane Stewart in 2010. The judge noted the deaths were in chillingly similar circumstances and that the major motive was financial gain. Stewart received £96,607.37 after his wife's death.

Adam Ingrey, 51, of High Barns, Ely, crashed his lorry on the A1307 at Girton, Cambridgeshire, on Thursday, 18 December, overturning the vehicle while heavily intoxicated. Roadside breath tests showed he had 94 micrograms of alcohol in his breath, nearly three times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Pleaded guilty to drink driving.
