Pleaded guilty. Recorder Felicity Davies stated: 'You were a danger to others by riding your bike on a pedestrian zone'. Noted the nasty degloving injury to victim's forearm, serious scarring, and lifestyle impacts on victim including inability to care for grandchildren, do hair, garden, drive, and fear of leaving house alone.

On December 17, 2024, the same day Ricky Johnson was released from Hull Magistrates' Court with a suspended sentence for carrying a knife, he made two telephone calls from a public phone box in Marfleet Lane. In the first, he threatened to 'chop a friend up' with a knife and provided his description. In the second, he threatened to 'chop up police officers' and gave his location. Armed police arrived, deployed Tasers with a red dot on him, and he surrendered the knife. During arrest, while an officer removed his Rosary beaded necklace, Johnson headbutted the officer. Police had used Tasers after he turned aggressive.

Yasar Hussain was found guilty of 13 counts of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in December 2012, following an investigation by West Yorkshire Police’s Economic Crime Unit. The charges related to £312,520.58 paid into business accounts owned by Hussain after he set up a company to manufacture an energy drink styled on the Duracell battery brand. He had travelled overseas and persuaded four international companies to pay advance fees for the sole distribution rights to the drink in their respective countries without Duracell’s permission to use their intellectual property and used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle. During his trial at Hull Crown Court in November 2012, Hussain fled the country despite being bailed not to leave the court precinct. He was traced to Dubai using a false identity, apprehended by Polish authorities in August 2024 at Warsaw Airport, extradited to the UK on 9 October 2024, and sentenced on 10 October 2024.

Kieran Parkinson, 36, of no fixed address, groomed a young boy with offers of money for sexual acts. On one occasion he performed a sex act on himself while the boy watched, and on another he stood rubbing his private parts in the boy's presence for several minutes. Police found Facebook chats with his wife Mary Parkinson discussing raping and assaulting children, and his phone contained videos of women having sex with animals, including a homemade video of his wife having sex with the family dog. He admitted three counts of possessing extreme pornographic images and was convicted after trial of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and causing a child to watch a sexual act.

Stirling, a six-month-old kitten, died on 2 February 2024 after suffering multiple injuries from at least three separate incidents of physical abuse. Luke Wilcock, of Sherwood Road, Grimsby, took the kitten to a vet after it coughed up blood, suffered a fit and collapsed, but it was already dead. A post-mortem examination revealed repeated trauma including rib fractures sustained over different time periods and evidence of attempts to suffocate the cat via smothering. Wilcock denied causing unnecessary suffering but was convicted of two counts. He had previously taken the cat for treatment in November 2023 for injuries reportedly caused by a fall.

Marian Feraru

Marian Feraru, aged 25 from Scunthorpe, committed two rapes and additional offences in the town. On 31 October 2021, he approached a woman on Teale Street, and after she rejected his advances, he raped her. His DNA was not then on the database. Five months later, on 27 March 2022, in Memorial Gardens, Scunthorpe, he approached another woman, placed a cord around her neck, and assaulted her after she refused his advances. A passer-by interrupted the attack, causing him to flee. Police arrested him following the second assault and his DNA matched the earlier rape, linking him to both crimes.
Convicted after a week-long trial of two counts of rape, theft, false imprisonment, and committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence. Acquitted of one count of attempted rape. Placed on the sex offenders register for life and given a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.

Rimas Ekleris, 59, arrived at Immingham Dock on August 19, 2022, after travelling from Cuxhaven, Germany. Border Force officers, acting on a tip-off from the National Crime Agency (NCA), searched his vehicle and found 60kg of cocaine hidden in a secret floor compartment of his cab unit. NCA investigators, working with Lithuania’s Criminal Police Bureau, obtained phone call recordings proving he had full knowledge of the drugs, collected the packages from a supplier, and was instructed on accessing the hidden compartment.
Found guilty by jury at trial despite maintaining innocence. Phone recordings proved knowledge of the drugs.

Dr Promise Agbi, 45, strangled a boy during a heated altercation. He shoved the victim and placed his hands around the boy's neck while others present shouted and screamed, causing the boy to lose breath. The victim believed his life was 'going to be over'. Agbi then grabbed the boy's groin area, which made him stop, but he began strangling the boy again, causing further loss of breath. The victim scratched Agbi in self-defence. The boy suffered significant emotional trauma, saying there were several occasions when he wanted to cry but could not.
Convicted after trial of two counts of intentional strangulation. Agbi accepted the jury's verdict, had no previous criminal record, and was described as having exemplary good character, having worked in healthcare for 15 years and saved lives. Judge Richard Woolfall confirmed he will be deported.

Owen Barker, 23, ran up debts with other dealers and agreed to sell drugs including cocaine and heroin laced with Etonitazene (1,000-1,500 times more potent than morphine) to clear them. The drug line, active from March 2025 to January 2026, sent around 900 bulk messages daily to 150-300 users across the region. Arrested after four overdoses at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby; police found 373 bags of cocaine (84-92% purity, street value £3,730), 160 bags of heroin (£1,600), scales and £125 cash at his home. Gary Edwards, a 56-year-old man from New Waltham, was sentenced for possessing indecent images of children for the second time and breaching his Sex Offender Registration order. The National Crime Agency alerted Humberside Police to an email account linked to Edwards. Officers seized a phone containing indecent images and videos of children, some at the most serious level. He admitted to three counts of possession. Edwards also pleaded guilty to failing to notify police of his move from Cleethorpes to New Waltham within the required timeframe, and failing to inform authorities that he had stayed at a home in Beverley where a person under 18 resided, breaching his notification requirements. He had been regularly attending Grimsby Police Station as part of his Sex Offender Register obligations. Edwards denied sexual attraction to children. His defence representative noted he was of previous good character until age 51 and is keen to undergo counselling. Judge Richard Woolfall remarked that the crimes perpetuate child abuse.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of indecent images and two counts of failing to comply with Sex Offender Registration order. Judge Richard Woolfall noted Edwards is 'some way off acknowledging that he has a sexual interest in children'. Graham Baxter, 60, of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, was found in possession of numerous indecent images of children and extreme pornographic material, including bestiality, on his electronic devices. The offending occurred between 2016 and October 2024. Police arrested him on 31 October 2024 after intelligence about his internet searches; he admitted his guilt and directed officers to the material on a tablet, laptop and phone. He received a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, with 20 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also imposed.
Admitted to police he was 'a pervert'. Judge Gurdial Singh condemned his behaviour as 'vile and disgusting', stating he fuelled demand for child abuse material. Baxter was of previous good character. Anthony Merrikin

In 2020, Anthony Merrikin, then 42, of Blundell Avenue, Cleethorpes, a builder and prominent charity founder, was convicted of grooming and sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. He used his private professional office to isolate the teenager and engaged in repeated sexual activity, causing severe long-term trauma. The abuse was uncovered when his wife, suspecting an affair, installed a hidden camera in the office and discovered the footage. She immediately contacted the police. Merrikin had raised over £30,000 for good causes through his charity Memory Mascots, which the judge said he used as a mask for his calculated campaign of exploitation.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The judge rejected the defence of a 'moment of madness' and noted that Merrikin used his charity work as a mask. He was also made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Once trust was established, he sexually assaulted the victim on multiple occasions and launched a campaign of harassment that included stalking, threatening to disclose indecent images, and ordering unwanted taxis and takeaways cash-on-delivery to the boy's home—in one instance sending 29 taxis in 24 hours. He was arrested and made full admissions; indecent images were found on his phone. The victim lived in a constant state of fear, suffering lifelong damage.
Made full admissions. Judge John Thackray KC described the behaviour as 'extremely disturbing'. Also imposed ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, indefinite Sex Offenders Register placement, and indefinite restraining order.

Pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment. The activated part of a 14-month suspended sentence (10 months) was ordered to run consecutively to the 14-week term. Judge Singh described him as an 'inept and useless career criminal' and said his words were 'vile'.

On May 24, 2022, at around 1.30pm, Steven Caldwell entered the Nisa store on Victor Street in Grimsby, set bags of BBQ charcoal alight, tossed paper onto the burning charcoal while grinning at the CCTV camera, and fled.
