Warrick Carson, 25, of Bushway, Dagenham, was involved in the murder of the 23-year-old victim on the night of 17 May 2018 near the victim's home on Harts Lane in Barking. The victim, who knew Carson and his co-attackers through school or relatives, was standing alone outside a block of flats when a white BMW pulled up. Two men got out and attacked him. The victim kicked off his flip flops and ran barefoot down Crows Road but was chased, pounced upon, and stabbed 18 times with Rambo-style knives, suffering fatal stab wounds to the chest and abdomen. The attackers returned to the BMW, which sped away. Carson was charged on 20 November 2018.

Found guilty of murder by unanimous verdict. Chose to say nothing in police interview. HHJ Angela Rafferty QC praised the victim's family for their integrity and exceptional courage throughout both murder trials, and the Met’s investigating team for their thorough investigation.

Less than two weeks later, on 3 April 2018, Rutkovskis stabbed an unsuspecting workman in the neck and back at a building site in Horley, Surrey, during a delivery collection. The victim survived. Rutkovskis was arrested at the scene after being restrained by other workers. Police found two kitchen knives in his possession. He was subsequently linked to both attacks during a prison interview.

He then filmed a selfie video as she lay dying and sent a message to the victim's mother before stabbing himself.
