Admitted murder. Judge Richard Marks QC described him as an 'appalling criminal' and noted that the probation service had wrongly assessed him as no longer a danger.

Along with Brandon Dunbar, Matovu spiked drinks with GHB to render victims unconscious, then stole items such as laptops, phones, cash, and credit cards to fund their chemsex habits. This occurred over 19 months from December 2016 to August 2018. In one instance on 17 August 2018, Matovu administered a lethal dose of GHB to Eric Michels at his home in Chessington, Surrey, likely via anal injection, causing his death. Matovu stole various items including a MacBook, phones, and bank cards, and used them for purchases before fleeing.
Pleaded not guilty but was convicted; judge noted Matovu as a dangerous offender, articulate and superficially charming; struggled with gender identity and was influenced by Dunbar; Matovu's defence argued the murder was an accident and that he expected the victim to recover.

Paul Mallin killed his ex-girlfriend Karen Read and her 86-year-old fiancé John Down in brutal circumstances at Fernways sheltered housing unit in Cecil Road, Ilford, on September 5, 2015. Motivated by anger over Miss Read choosing Mr Down over him, Mallin had previously stabbed Mr Down's wall with a knife, spat at him, and searched online more than 300 times for poisons, including 'poison that doesn’t show up in an autopsy' and references to 'Ricin' from the TV show Breaking Bad. On the night of the incident, he attempted to force entry into Mr Down's flat armed with a knife and a meat cleaver, stabbing Mr Down multiple times while he tried to defend the door, and then stabbing Miss Read, who was disabled and witnessed the attack from her armchair.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility. Judge Richard Marks KC commented that the victims were completely defenceless and highly vulnerable, suffering terrible injuries and meeting their deaths in the worst possible circumstances.

Amanda O'Shaughnessy stabbed her partner David Butterworth, aged 38, once in the back with a kitchen knife during a violent confrontation in the kitchen of their home in Tilbrook Drive, Rainhill, St Helens. The incident followed a fierce argument exacerbated by excessive drinking in their stormy relationship. She admitted the stabbing but claimed self-defence after he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against a kitchen unit. Two of her daughters, aged seven and two, were in the house but did not witness the event. The attack occurred after Butterworth returned home following the initial row.
Convicted of murder; claimed self-defence but not accepted by jury; showed deep remorse; appeal ongoing with fresh psychiatric evidence.

Jason Conroy strangled Melissa Mathieson, an 18-year-old resident, at Alexandra House care home in Bristol in October 2014. Ian Watkins was arrested on September 21, 2012, following the execution of a drugs warrant at his Pontypridd home, where a large number of computers, mobile phones, and storage devices were seized. Analysis uncovered his depraved behaviour involving child sex offences, including the attempted rape of an 11-month-old baby and engaging in sexual activity with a child. Among the disturbing videos were his attempted rape of a baby and a webcam chat instructing a fan to abuse her child. He was convicted of 11 other offences.
With a further six years on licence. Pleaded guilty to a string of sex offences including attempted rape of a fan’s baby. Appeal against sentence length denied by Court of Appeal in 2014. Later received additional 10 months in 2019 for possessing a mobile phone in prison.

Christopher Chittock, then 38, murdered his girlfriend Sarah Shields, 23, while on holiday in Gran Canaria in July 2010. He strangled her after a jealous rage triggered by her texting an ex-boyfriend. He attacked her in their apartment, dragged her to a beach, smashed her head on rocks, and throttled her before dumping her body in the sea. A Spanish autopsy showed she had a severely broken nose at least two hours before death. Chittock attempted to cover up the crime by sending texts from her phone to her family, claiming she had run off with another man.
Originally given parole in November 2023 but recalled to prison seven months later. The Parole Board will assess if he can be released, focusing on public risk.
