On 26 March 2025, in Walditch near Bridport, Dorset, Christopher Wellman was working at his mother-in-law's house near a shared entranceway with neighbours Colin and Helen Prior, playing loud music and using an electric saw. Mr Prior, 76, complained about the noise, put his foot on the saw after Wellman ignored him. Wellman shouted an insult, took a long back swing with a 3x4 piece of wood and struck Mr Prior on the right side of the face and ear with both hands. This fractured Mr Prior's cheekbone and eye socket wall, split his ear, caused a laceration requiring hospital treatment, loosened a tooth, and additional shoulder injury from falling onto a gate. The incident stemmed from ongoing neighbour dispute over planning for a massage business.

Judge Recorder Tom Day described the attack as unprovoked, unjustified and appalling but suspended sentence as it was out of character, impulsive and supported by character references. On 11 April 2023 at around 9am, 38-year-old Dale Clark drove a Toyota Rav-4 at speed (estimated in excess of 40mph in a 30mph limit) while under the influence of alcohol and using a mobile phone. He collided with a woman in her 30s who was pushing an 11-month-old child in a pushchair on a pedestrian crossing in Redhill Avenue, Bournemouth. The child was unharmed but the woman suffered serious injuries to her head, pelvis, leg and spleen and was hospitalised in a life-threatening condition. Clark drove away from the scene but was identified by a witness who memorised his registration plate. He was arrested and provided a breath reading of 46 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml (legal limit 35).

Rickey Lee Thompson stole a tractor from the Litton Cheney area on March 31, 2023, which was later found damaged near Maiden Newton. On June 9, he stole a Range Rover from Nottington Lane near Weymouth, which was found in Abbotsbury after colliding with a wall. On July 5, he stole a white Nissan e-NV200 van from Martinstown near Dorchester, making slight contact with the victim. The van was found in Bridport on July 12. On July 6, a white tipper truck stolen from Burton Bradstock was found on fire in Jubilee Close, Weymouth. Thompson was linked to the offences through police investigation and arrested.

Ricky Anthony Mills, a 47-year-old man from Shoeburyness, Southend-on-Sea, with previous connections to East Dorset, was convicted of 15 child sex offences, including sexual assault of a child under 13 and causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The offences occurred between August 2013 and November 2017 against a victim under the age of 13. The charges included five counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, six counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of causing a child to watch a sexual act. Peter Edwards, aged 36, from South Perrott, Dorset, sexually abused his pet Labrador dog, Max. An anonymous tip-off led Dorset Police to seize his mobile phone and computer devices, revealing disturbing videos and images of the abuse. He also encouraged or allowed Jonathan Barton to engage in bestiality with the dog. Edwards admitted making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images. Following his arrest, Edwards expressed concern for Max's welfare, and the dog was rehomed. Edwards exhibited autistic traits, high intelligence, and unusual attitudes, and had been signed off work with anxiety and depression. Judge Stephen Climie at Bournemouth Crown Court declined a custodial sentence, citing Edwards' vulnerability in prison and the potential for rehabilitation in the community.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual intercourse with an animal, one count of encouraging bestiality, three counts of making indecent images of a child, and three counts of possessing extreme pornographic images. Judge Stephen Climie described the acts as 'bizarre and utterly depraved'. The community order includes up to 60 rehabilitation activity days and a three-month curfew. Richard John Haddlesey, a 52-year-old former supply teacher from Weymouth, Dorset, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on 8 December 2022 to eight years in prison for child sex offences committed between April 2013 and April 2015. The offences involved the repeated sexual abuse of a girl, beginning when she was in year four (around nine years old), including inappropriate touching of her genitals and inciting sexual activity. The abuse occurred on multiple occasions at an address in Weymouth. The victim disclosed the abuse at age 12 after seeing Haddlesey at her school. In her impact statement, she described feelings of constant shame, anger, and self-hatred but emphasised resilience. Haddlesey, of Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth, was convicted on two counts of assault by touching a girl under 13 and one count of inciting or causing a girl under 13 to perform sexual activity after a trial in November 2022. He must serve two-thirds of his sentence before release eligibility.

Morgan George Smith, 21, from Northampton, caused a fatal collision in Poole Harbour in the early hours of 2 May 2022. After drinking at a regatta prize-giving event at Poole Yacht Club, he agreed to ferry passengers including 24-year-old David Haw across the harbour in a rigid inflatable boat. Smith hit an illuminated metal Diver Buoy at nearly 30 knots, throwing Mr Haw into the water where he drowned. His body was recovered two weeks later. Smith was not trained for night-time operation, used a mobile phone for navigation, and neither he nor the passengers wore life jackets.

Willmington admitted the new offences and pleaded guilty to making an indecent photo of a child, possessing a prohibited image, and possessing an extreme pornographic image. He lived with his mother at Northport Drive, Wareham, Dorset, and had started working to aid his rehabilitation.

On 4 January 2023 at around 7.30pm, Wanrong Liang confronted a group of young people outside the Spar shop in Turlin Road, Poole, while brandishing an imitation black revolver. He shouted abuse, followed them into the shop waving the weapon, then left on an electric bike. Dorset Police arrested the 30-year-old after searches; an electronic incapacitation device and CS gas were also recovered from his Poole address. He was convicted of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possessing a prohibited weapon (CS gas) and possessing a disguised firearm.

On June 24, 2022, at around 9.50am, Wayne Legg was driving a Vauxhall Zafira along Heckford Road toward the junction with Wimborne Road in Poole. Edward ‘Ted’ Teggin, 89, was walking along the pavement on Wimborne Road. When the Zafira stopped at the junction, Mr Teggin proceeded to cross the road in front of the vehicle. Legg drove forward, colliding with Mr Teggin, who was taken to hospital but died on June 29. Legg failed to make sufficient checks of his surroundings as he pulled off from the junction.
Also disqualified from driving for 12 months. Pleaded guilty to causing death by driving without due care and attention.
