Tyrone Richards, 31, of no fixed abode, committed offences between May 18 and June 1, 2019, at his mother’s address in Gloucester. On one occasion, he asked his mother for money, became agitated when refused, shouted, grabbed and smashed her mobile phone when she tried to call police, and smashed a hole in the bathroom wall. A few days later, he was stopped by police near his mother’s home and found in possession of a kitchen knife, which he claimed was for protection after being bullied and beaten up. On June 1, he returned, became agitated, told his mother he hated her and wanted to kill her, pushed her to the floor, pointed a knife at her, and said 'I should stab you', leaving her terrified, shaking, and crying.
Convicted by Cheltenham Magistrates Court on June 25, 2019. Alcoholic with 28 previous convictions for 45 offences, many for violence. Indefinite restraining order imposed banning contact with his mother. Drinking at the root of offending; overreacted due to homelessness and past beatings; feels guilty after father's death last year.
