Derek Johnson conducted a campaign of sexual abuse against three young girls aged 13 to 16 between 2020 and 2023. He groomed them online via platforms like Tumblr, met them in person, and subjected them to prolonged assaults, including in hotels, secluded woodland on Dartmoor, and by filming the abuse to blackmail them. He moved to Gloucestershire to be closer to one victim, kept records of his offences in a calendar app, and possessed child sexual abuse videos. After arrest in February 2024, he fled to Ireland but was extradited in June 2025. The victims suffered severe physical and mental trauma, including suicide attempts and lasting scars.
Admitted 14 counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity with a child. Must serve at least 10 years in custody, extended 5-year licence period, sexual harm prevention order, and restraining order. Judge Rupert Lowe described the offences as the worst examples imaginable and found Johnson's letter of remorse glib.

Steven Matthew Jones, aged 42 and of no fixed address, groomed and repeatedly sexually abused a girl aged under 16 on multiple occasions. The offences included inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity and engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15. He was arrested by Gloucestershire Police, initially denied the allegations, but following investigation by the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, he was charged. He also admitted to two counts of burglary, with six other burglaries taken into consideration, an attempted burglary, and a shoplifting offence.
Pleaded guilty to 12 sexual offences, admitted two counts of burglary with six other burglaries taken into consideration, plus an attempted burglary and shoplifting. He made sexual and inappropriate comments, asked unwanted personal and sexual questions, brushed his arm and hand against their breasts, and put his hand on their legs. In defence, he claimed accidental contact while teaching clutch control or grabbing the steering wheel.

CCTV showed the men together before an argument on Eastgate Street. Mr Gebrehiwot walked away; Muiruri went home, picked up a knife, returned, stabbed him fatally to the chest, and said 'I am done with you now' before walking away wearing a distinctive red and white Arsenal Football Club jacket. He was arrested the next day with matching jacket and trainers seized.
Found guilty by unanimous jury verdict after a two-week trial of murder and possession of a knife in a public place. Judge noted his previous convictions from 2016 and described him as someone who can become terrifyingly violent if crossed.

Also known as Nina Tiara. Pleaded guilty to 26 counts including fraud, possessing and transferring criminal property, and perverting the course of justice. Serial shoplifter who defrauded retailers of more than £500,000 through refund fraud on items never purchased. Continued offending after being caught by using others' credit cards and attempting to deceive the justice system.

On January 5, 2023, Andrew Owens was stopped in his vehicle in Coleford due to erratic driving and was found in possession of 62.72 grams of ketamine, a Class B drug, with a street value of between £1,240 and £1,860. He admitted to selling the drug to friends to fund his own habit, which began in 2020 as a way to cope with anxiety and depression stemming from school bullying. He was also convicted of an associated motoring offence by Cheltenham Magistrates Court.

Luke Timms attacked Mr O'Donnell at a bus stop in Barbourne Road, Worcester, on October 13, 2022, in front of the victim's one-year-old child. The incident stemmed from a Facebook dispute over whether Mr O'Donnell was in a relationship with Timms' ex-girlfriend. Timms approached the victim, punched him twice, pulled his body warmer over his head, and punched him repeatedly to the head, causing a serious injury to his forehead that left a scar. The assault lasted just under ten seconds.
Pleaded guilty to the offence. The sentence took into account that it cost him his job and career, and he supports three children. No compensation or restraining order was imposed.

Lennox Clarke

Lennox Clarke, a former professional boxer, supplied cocaine to Ben Goff, a drug dealer in Cheltenham. Between September and November 2023, there were 12 significant meetings where Clarke provided Goff with quantities of cocaine ranging from 28g to 1kg. Clarke also travelled to Cheltenham with two other men on 16 October 2023 to enforce debts related to the drug supply. After Goff's arrest in November 2023, Clarke fled to Thailand but returned to the UK in March 2024, where he was arrested at his home near Stourbridge. He has a prior conviction for supplying Class B drugs.
Pleaded guilty to supplying class A drugs. Had a previous conviction for supplying Class B drugs in 2012. Judge Ian Lawrie KC commented on the harm caused by Class A drugs and noted it was an opportunity for easy money. He will be eligible for release on licence after serving half the sentence and will receive 317 days credit for time spent on curfew.

On May 19, 2023, Ashley Quinton, aged 38 from Gloucestershire, drank nine pints of beer at a pub before driving a Vauxhall Vivaro van on Ermin Street in Brockworth. He collided with 18-year-old motorcyclist Tyler Durn, who was travelling between 66mph and 76mph in a 30mph zone. Tyler was pronounced dead at the scene. Quinton was charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention while over the prescribed alcohol limit.
Pleaded guilty. Will serve 20 months. Breathalysed at 76 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, over twice the legal limit.
Artur Mieszczak

Artur Mieszczak was driving a Volkswagen Passat with two friends when he collided with a tree at Old Birdlip Hill in Witcombe on July 6, 2023, while under the influence of alcohol. One passenger, a man in his 50s from Swindon, died at the scene, and the other, a woman in her 20s from Swindon, sustained serious injuries and was treated at hospitals. Mieszczak's breath alcohol level was 63 micrograms per 100 millilitres, exceeding the legal limit of 35. He was also uninsured and unlicensed at the time.
Pleaded guilty to all charges. Disqualified from driving for seven years and must pay a £228 surcharge.
Shane Pickersgill

On September 16, 2023, at around 12.30am in Newent, Shane Pickersgill assaulted his partner by punching her in the face multiple times and biting her. The victim called her sister for help while on the phone, during which the sister heard the assault and the victim's screams of 'Get off me'. Pickersgill threatened the sister over the phone, saying 'You’re next, and you’re going to get what’s coming to you', then grabbed the victim's phone and ran off. Police arrived quickly, found the victim distressed with injuries, and took her home. During arrest, Pickersgill assaulted a police officer by kicking backwards. He denied the assault in interview, claiming injuries from getting out of a car. This incident breached a suspended sentence of eight weeks imposed on September 11, 2023, and four community orders related to prior assaults on the same victim and another person. Pickersgill's chaotic lifestyle and alcohol issues contributed, but he has improved in custody.
Pleaded guilty at the last minute to common assault of his partner and assaulting an emergency worker. Breached suspended sentence order and four community orders. Judge revoked community orders and activated suspended sentence. Offences so serious only immediate custody justified. Compliance with probation was next to none.

Alex Evans

On 23 December 2023, Alex Evans was driving a single-seat quad bike with his 22-year-old partner, Grace Vater, sitting on the rear rack in a side-saddle position on Whitehouse Lane near Shipton Moyne. Grace fell off, sustaining a severe head injury, and died two days later on Christmas Day at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Evans left the scene in panic, knowing he was disqualified from driving, and the quad bike was later found hidden. He was arrested and charged following an investigation by Gloucestershire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified and uninsured. Judge described leaving the scene as a 'cowardly and shameful act'. Had prior disqualification for driving under the influence of cannabis.

Kimberley Ann Hawkins

On 22 January 2023, outside a Tesco superstore in Gloucestershire, Kimberley Ann Hawkins stole Neil Shadwick's mobility scooter after he was unable to withdraw money for her. She sped away, dragging the 63-year-old vulnerable man with severe Parkinson’s for up to a minute, causing him abrasions and leading to his trousers coming off. He fell off near the Tesco petrol station, crawled back to retrieve his bank card, and collapsed. Left in sub-zero temperatures (about -4C) overnight without his scooter, he was found unresponsive at 6am on Stratford Road, Stroud, and died later in hospital. Hawkins abandoned the scooter on Bisley Old Road after its battery ran out. The incident followed a sexual encounter and attempts to extract money from the victim, whom she knew was extremely vulnerable and reliant on carers.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter, aggravated vehicle taking, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Judge Peter Blair KC described the events as horrific and noted the defendant's exploitation of the victim to feed her drug habit.
Jonathan Neep
Racially aggravated harassment with offensive weapons *

On October 6, 2023, at the Belfry Inn in Littledean near Cinderford, Jonathan Neep approached Khady Gueye and made racist remarks about black people in the UK, questioning her Nigerian heritage and stating they should not become British. After being told to leave by her friends and the licensee, he received a threatening call and returned armed with a six-inch kitchen knife and a Colt Defender .177 air weapon (BB gun). He pointed the gun at a man's face in the car park, was disarmed in a scuffle, and the weapons were seized. Neep was intoxicated and protested he was protecting himself. The incident caused fear and shock among patrons.
Pleaded guilty. No previous convictions. Judge noted it was a moment of madness influenced by intoxication, out of character for the defendant who is an intelligent engineer with charity work in Nigeria. Impact on victim substantial and long-lasting. Five-year restraining order imposed.

Paul Dodd
Child cruelty and indecent assault *

Paul Dodd, a former history teacher and rugby coach at Whitgift School in South Croydon, abused boys aged between 10 and 12 in the 1980s. The abuse came to light through a 1995 TV New Zealand documentary. Dodd moved to New Zealand around 1988 and taught at Kings College in Auckland, where he admitted to prior dismissal from Whitgift for hitting a child. He was placed on 'List 99' by the Department for Education, prohibiting him from teaching. Victims reported anxiety, nightmares, and depression. Following the appeal, Dodd was given until 4pm on September 22, 2023, to surrender to a police station.
Originally given a suspended sentence of two years in July at Gloucester Crown Court, which was deemed too lenient by the Court of Appeal following an appeal by the Attorney General’s Office. Pleaded guilty to one offence of child cruelty and two of indecent assault. Judge considered Dodd as sole carer for his wife with a chronic medical condition, but appeal judges imposed the custodial term.
