Arthur Warwick, a former resident of Penrith, Cumbria, was convicted of a series of horrific child sex crimes. Warwick was caught through a sting operation by Cumbria Police after travelling to Whitehaven to meet a 13-year-old boy he had groomed online, who was actually an undercover officer. A search of his home uncovered 20 indecent images of children, some Class A. At Carlisle Crown Court, Judge James Cartlidge imposed a life sentence with a minimum term of 13 years. Detective Chief Inspector David Pattinson praised the victims' courage, stating that the sentence brought closure. Warwick died in prison on Christmas Day while serving his sentence at HMP Frankland.

On 12 April, after drinking for over 12 hours, Stuart returned to the shop at 20:30 BST, producing a BB gun and threatening to burn the premises down if the complaint was not dropped. He was identified from CCTV and the BB gun and a matching gilet were found at his home. He later admitted the offences.

He had travelled 80 miles from Cumbria with his wife and daughter, dropping them at the Royal Victoria Infirmary for his daughter's skin graft appointment, before going to meet the decoy posed as the underage girl. He had been chatting on Whatsapp, sending explicit pictures and making derogatory comments about his wife.

At an address in Carlisle, he seized the victim’s phone, threatened him with a wooden baseball bat and a hammer, blocked the exit, and said he could not let the victim leave without hurting him. The victim was too frightened to escape. Three days later, Berry followed the victim home from a gym, banged on the door, and shouted for him despite pleas from the victim’s mother. The incidents were reported at Durranhill police station in Carlisle. Berry admitted harassment without violence and two counts of threatening with an offensive weapon in a private place.

He stared at her, pretended to be suicidal to gain sympathy, complimented her, stated he would like to say what he would like to do to her, and asked for a cuddle. She rebuffed him and contacted police. This pattern mirrored a sexual assault he committed in Kendal in June 2024, where he used similar tactics. Huddart had changed his name after that conviction to avoid detection. His criminal record spans over two decades with 25 prior offences, including indecent assault on a 14-year-old in 2003, sexual assault of another 14-year-old in 2004, and online grooming of someone he believed to be 15 in 2018.

Patrick Young, of Firlands in Carlisle, confronted a widowed grandmother in her home north of Millom in the early hours of 10 September. Wearing a dark coloured hoodie, he stole her handbag and purse containing cash and a photograph of her late husband with her grandchildren. He fled with an accomplice in a Ford Mondeo with false plates. When pursued by police between Wath Brow and Whitehaven, he drove at high speed, performed dangerous manoeuvres, and reversed repeatedly into the police vehicle no less than 11 times before being stopped. Young and his accomplice fled on foot; he was found hiding in undergrowth. The other burglar was never traced. The victim was disgusted and collapsed, requiring an ambulance.
Admitted burglary and was convicted of dangerous driving. Has 105 previous offences, including prior burglaries and ramming a police vehicle. Recorder Julian Shaw stated the offending was so serious only a custodial sentence could be imposed.

Mark Adams, of Rowe Terrace, Workington, Cumbria, created a false online profile using photos of a woman he knew, pretending to be a gay 21-year-old woman on a dating website to attract young girls. Between 4 and 7 February 2020, he engaged in sexual communications with a user he believed to be a 13-year-old schoolgirl (actually an undercover police officer), exchanging phone numbers, requesting indecent images, sending naked images, and inciting her to perform sexual acts on herself while referencing her school uniform. He made WhatsApp calls to listen. The woman whose photos were used was distressed upon learning of it. Adams denied wrongdoing in interviews.

Assessed as posing a low risk of reconviction and medium risk of causing serious harm. The order stemmed from his earlier prosecution for attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, where he believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl in explicitly sexual conversations as part of an online sting by the Child Online Safety Team.

Admitted faking mobility problems to claim personal independence payments (PIP). Judge Michael Fanning called the scam 'overwhelmingly selfish, greedy and grossly dishonest' and stated prison was the only option.
