On April 11, 2025, at around 9.30pm on the platform at Birmingham New Street Station, Morgan Cox and Ellouise Parke, who had been drinking heavily, approached a couple, asked to share a drink, consumed it, then argued. They followed the couple, punched and kicked the woman near an escalator causing a bloodied nose and broken teeth, then pushed her partner off the platform onto live railway tracks; he climbed back up with a gash to his head, bruising and a cut to his lower back. Attack continued until station staff intervened. Victims suffered lasting injuries and emotional impact.
Admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Early guilty plea, no previous convictions, reduced drinking, in education, family support. Rehabilitation activity requirements, drug testing, Intensive Supervision Court order, £100 compensation to each victim. District Judge Michelle Smith.

David Bird, 57, of Tinkers Farm Road, Birmingham, arrived drunk at Birmingham Crown Court on March 27 for a delayed burglary sentencing hearing, having had a 'last drink' assuming he would be imprisoned. Security guards noticed he was intoxicated and asked him to leave twice. He returned, pushed a security guard in the chest causing no injury and low-level harm.
Pleaded guilty to common assault at the first opportunity. Offence aggravated by being committed while on bail for ABH and burglary, and against a public servant doing his duty. Prior battery conviction from 2015. Ordered to pay £275 including £54 victim surcharge and £85 court costs, with collection order.

Sean Kerr operated a puppy farm on Coventry Road, Bickenhill, where puppies were bred and sold to unsuspecting buyers, many of whom died shortly after purchase. Dogs were kept in cold, dark, filthy conditions in sheds and stables on wooden pallets with sawdust and no bedding. Four dogs, including three pregnant ones, were locked in a room in complete darkness. A dead puppy was found in a plastic carrier bag in a van. Instructions on a whiteboard included 'Keep puppies quiet, do not let them bark. Squirt them or use whip to crack in yard.' One dog had an untreated dislocated hip, another a painful skin condition, and some puppies were born with deformities. RSPCA removed 37 dogs and puppies in December 2015 following complaints.
Found guilty after a three-week trial of six counts of causing unnecessary suffering to dogs and three offences of failing to meet the needs of a number of dogs. Lodged an appeal on conviction and sentence.
