Rhys Conn met the victim, a teenager, in a pub while she was out with friends. He offered her and her friends a lift to a garage. During the journey, he sexually assaulted her by pulling her towards him, attempting to kiss her, and trying to touch her inappropriately despite her protests. Later, when alone with her in the van again, he made further advances and took her to his home instead of hers, where he raped her upstairs after she expressed she did not want to and wanted to leave. The incident occurred in the evening, and the victim later developed PTSD as a result.
Found guilty of two counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of attempted sexual assault. Judge Carolyn Scott noted the significant impact on the victim, who was left traumatised. Defence argued there was no abduction and minimal planning.
