She failed to declare employment as a CCTV operator from March 2004 and as a full-time bus driver from January 24, 2005, to October 11, 2007, while receiving £17,071.85 in Income Support. She also claimed £15,930.38 in Housing Benefit and £1,787.99 in Council Tax Benefit from Croydon Council, including overpayments of £8,896.39 between April 10, 2006, and October 14, 2007. On July 4, 2008, she submitted bogus tenancy agreements for 38 and 40 Dunbar Avenue, Norbury, forging the landlord's signature, and received £8,821.98 directly into her bank account despite not living there. The fraud was discovered via a routine tax audit, leading to charges the previous year. Her actions were motivated by desperation to support her four children under 16, following years of domestic abuse by her estranged husband, whom she left in 2000 after he threw their baby daughter on the floor.
Admitted nine counts of making a false representation and two of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances. Cleared of two charges after prosecution offered no evidence. Judge considered serious heart problems, obesity, mobility issues, and history of domestic abuse. Electronically monitored curfew changed to doorstep police checks due to inability to attach tag.
