While in custody, an amount of cannabis was found among his belongings. In a police interview, Sharpe claimed the phone, cash, and heroin did not belong to him but refused to explain how he came to be carrying them.

David Smith brutally murdered Sarah Crump, a 33-year-old sex worker and secretary at Wimbledon Hospital, in her one-bedroom flat in Southall, West London, in 1991. The killing was sexual and sadistic in nature, with pre-meditated intention to kill and sexually mutilate. Sarah was found with her breasts cut off and internal organs placed on the bed. Smith was acquitted in 1993 but boasted to a fellow prisoner about getting away with it. The case was referred for retrial following changes to double jeopardy laws in 2003, leading to his conviction this week based on new evidence.
Found guilty after retrial ordered by Court of Appeal due to new and compelling evidence. Branded a 'sadistic sexual killer' and 'habitual and dishonest liar' by the judge. No remorse shown. On 2 August 2019, Garfield Balfour, a 50-year-old bus driver, was operating a double-decker bus on Walworth Road, Southwark. He looked away from the road to pick up a chocolate bar from the floor of his cab, during which time he removed his hands from the steering wheel and accelerated slightly. This caused the bus to strike Arthur Gowrie, an 88-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road with a walking stick and shopping trolley. Mr Gowrie suffered a serious head injury and died two days later. CCTV footage showed Balfour was not looking ahead at the time of the incident.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving. He was a highly experienced bus driver with no prior offences, and the incident was described as a tragic combination of events.

Tommy Puhlhoffer, a 32-year-old traveller with a history of crime, was admitted to King's College Hospital on 4 September 2020 after being deliberately run over, suffering serious injuries including broken tibia and fibula. An X-ray revealed a full-size mobile phone concealed in his rectum, suspected to be stolen, leading to his arrest. While under police protection, he became aggressive, hurling racial abuse at Asian officers, scratching and biting PC Chahal's hand, drawing blood, and threatening to pass on HIV, claiming he was positive. On 10 September at St Thomas' Hospital, he punched an officer's leg twice, ripped out a cannula causing blood to squirt, and threw blood at officers while yelling HIV threats. On 12 September at University College Hospital, he directed vile abuse at PC Lu and kicked at officers. Earlier, on 13 February 2020, he stole a black Volvo worth over £29,000, led police on a chase through Hammersmith, deliberately braked hard to cause collisions, reversed into a police car multiple times, and crashed into Queen's Tennis Club in West Kensington, where he was arrested with a lock knife in his pocket. The Volvo was written off, causing loss to the owner, and significant damage to the police vehicle.
Admitted three counts of harassment, seven counts of assault by beating an emergency worker, theft, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, possessing a bladed article, and breaching a suspended sentence. Ordered to pay £190 victim surcharge. Judge noted extremely lengthy and bad record.

Emma Stansfield, 34, a class-A drug addict and mother of three from Croydon, duped a lonely 59-year-old retired civil servant divorcé out of £3,000 by pretending she had been kidnapped and tortured by drug dealers. She targeted him days after they met, claiming she owed £1,000 to violent men, and sent text messages asking for money while offering sex. She convinced him to hand over his bank card, extracting sums ranging from £300 to £1,000 between July 7 and July 20, taking around 10 per cent of his life savings. She faked injuries like cigarette burns and broken wrists, and even staged a kidnapping. After police involvement, she continued targeting him from prison with 15 letters offering sex to withdraw his statement.
Pleaded guilty to blackmail and attempting to pervert the course of justice. Ordered to attend a six-month drug rehab course. Judge commented she had picked on a vulnerable man and was cruelly manipulative.

On March 3, 2005, Merice Brown, riding his bike in Camberwell New Road, Kennington, saw a 19-year-old man in Exotic Barbers having his hair cut. They made eye contact and stared at each other. Brown entered the shop, sat next to the man, and exchanged words. He left but returned with a gun, confronted the victim again, and shot him several times before fleeing on his bike. The victim suffered three gunshot wounds to his forehead and one to his jaw, was treated in a south London hospital, and survived. No suspects were identified at the time. In March 2015, Brown confessed at Braunstone Police Station in Leicestershire, describing where he buried the gun, which was recovered by Met officers—a black semi-automatic handgun with a spent bullet and live round.
Pleaded guilty to attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition without a certificate. Confessed after finding religion. Concurrent 12-year sentence for firearm possession.

She failed to declare employment as a CCTV operator from March 2004 and as a full-time bus driver from January 24, 2005, to October 11, 2007, while receiving £17,071.85 in Income Support. She also claimed £15,930.38 in Housing Benefit and £1,787.99 in Council Tax Benefit from Croydon Council, including overpayments of £8,896.39 between April 10, 2006, and October 14, 2007. On July 4, 2008, she submitted bogus tenancy agreements for 38 and 40 Dunbar Avenue, Norbury, forging the landlord's signature, and received £8,821.98 directly into her bank account despite not living there. The fraud was discovered via a routine tax audit, leading to charges the previous year. Her actions were motivated by desperation to support her four children under 16, following years of domestic abuse by her estranged husband, whom she left in 2000 after he threw their baby daughter on the floor.
Admitted nine counts of making a false representation and two of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances. Cleared of two charges after prosecution offered no evidence. Judge considered serious heart problems, obesity, mobility issues, and history of domestic abuse. Electronically monitored curfew changed to doorstep police checks due to inability to attach tag.

He appeared out of nowhere, bent down, grabbed her boot and leg just below the knee, then her shoulder, while smirking. The victim felt spooked but initially brushed it off. The family saw him twice more that evening, suspected stalking, and alerted police, leading to his arrest at the scene. This incident is part of a pattern of sex offences dating back to 1984, including spanking a woman in hospital in 2003, jumping on a woman at a festival in 2007, attempting to fondle a shoe at a bus stop in 2009, and rubbing a 17-year-old fashion student's knee and boots on a train in October 2009, for which he was previously jailed for eight months.
Denied sexual assault and was convicted by a jury. Has 34 previous convictions including assault, harassment, robbery, and affray.
